Position Overview
- Are you an innovative, passionate, and creative educator or other professional who is dedicated to enhancing the lives of adults with developmental disabilities? We are seeking a dynamic Special Education Teacher or Professional to lead an in-person Saturday program in Prince George's County, Maryland that is designed to empower adults with developmental disabilities by building their social skills and independent living capabilities. Program Mission
- Our Saturday program is committed to fostering independence and social inclusion for adults with developmental disabilities. Through hands-on, experience-driven activities, we aim to empower participants to develop essential life skills in a setting that values community and inclusion. The program emphasizes practical skills such as safe practices, money management, healthy social skills, household management, nutrition, and physical fitness, all within a fun, engaging, and supportive community setting
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver innovative, interactive content for adults with developmental disabilities, focusing on independent living and social skill development
- Integrate academics, enrichment, and experiential learning to create a well-rounded, engaging experience
- Create a welcoming, inclusive environment that celebrates diversity and encourages community participation
- Adapt activities and teaching methods to accommodate a range of learning styles and developmental needs
- Collaborate with other professionals and volunteers to continuously improve program quality and participant engagement
Qualifications
- Proven experience working with adults with developmental disabilities in an educational, programmatic, or therapeutic setting
- Expertise in designing fun, engaging, and educational activities that promote independent living skills
- Strong ability to adapt content and approach to suit diverse learning styles and developmental needs
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to working with a diverse community, including other professionals, families, and community members
- Demonstrated passion for promoting social connections and independence among adults with developmental disabilities
Work Schedule
Preferred Skills And Certifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field
- Background in teaching independent living skills or providing life skills coaching
- Training in safety protocols, health and wellness for adults with developmental disabilities, or adaptive physical education
