Work Schedule:

This is a temporary part-time position: 4 sessions in the Fall and 4 sessions in the Spring; non-exempt. This position is not eligible for benefits. The appointment expires on or before August 31, 2025.

Overview:

Under the supervision of the Director and Component Coordinator, the incumbent will teach preparation courses to Upward Bound participants from two high schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District and four high schools in the Pasadena Unified School District.

Essential Functions:

• The incumbent will teach the High School curriculum in subjects such as: English (Composition and Literature), Foreign Language (Spanish), Mathematics through Pre-Calculus, and Laboratory Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics).
• Manage classes; assist in assessments of participants' academic deficiencies and develop recommendations; create curriculum and activities; evaluate academic progress; attend meetings; maintain attendance records; provide weekly grades; conduct parent conferences as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree or progress towards one in a related field from an accredited college or university. Teaching credentials are not required for preparation courses.
• Experience working or tutoring high school students.

The incumbent must demonstrate an interest or ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the UAS. Failure to do so may affect employment prospects.
