Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, cook, and plate menu items according to recipes and presentation guidelines.
  • Set up, stock, and maintain assigned kitchen stations.
  • Perform prep tasks such as chopping, portioning, sauces, and butchering.
  • Maintain consistency in flavor, portions, temperature, and presentation.
  • Monitor ticket times and ensure quality during high-volume service.
  • Follow FIFO, labeling, dating and inventory practices.
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary workstation and comply with health regulations.
  • Clean and maintain kitchen equipment and surfaces.
  • Communicate with chefs and FOH/bom staff for timely orders.
  • Monitor inventory and report shortages or issues to leadership.
  • Follow opening/closing procedures and deep-clean tasks.
  • Maintain safe operation of grills, ovens, fryers, knives and equipment.
  • Support events, catering and other operations as needed.
  • Contribute to a positive, respectful kitchen culture reflecting hospitality.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Line Cook is responsible for preparing and executing high-quality menu items that deliver exceptional guest experiences while maintaining consistency, efficiency, and food safety. This role combines culinary skill, attention to detail, and teamwork to ensure every dish meets Still Austin Quarter standards for quality, presentation, and timing.

Line Cooks play a vital role in creating memorable guest experiences by supporting a collaborative kitchen environment, maintaining operational excellence, and consistently executing food with pride and precision.

SUCCESS PROFILE

To be successful in this role, the Line Cook will:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepare, cook, and plate menu items according to established recipes, quality standards, and presentation guidelines.
  • Set up, stock, and maintain assigned kitchen stations with all necessary ingredients, equipment, and supplies before, during, and after service.
  • Perform food preparation tasks including chopping vegetables, portioning ingredients, preparing sauces, butchering meats, and other prep work as assigned.
  • Maintain consistency in flavor, portion size, temperature, and presentation across every dish served.
  • Monitor ticket times and execute orders efficiently while maintaining quality standards during high-volume periods.
  • Follow proper food storage, labeling, dating, rotation (FIFO), and inventory practices to minimize waste and maintain food quality.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workstation while complying with all health department regulations and food safety standards.
  • Properly clean, sanitize, and maintain kitchen equipment, tools, and work surfaces throughout each shift.
  • Communicate proactively with chefs, kitchen staff, and front-of-house team members to ensure accurate, timely execution of guest orders.
  • Monitor inventory levels at assigned stations and communicate product shortages or equipment issues to leadership promptly.
  • Follow all opening, closing, side work, and deep cleaning procedures assigned to the kitchen.
  • Maintain safe work practices while operating grills, ovens, fryers, knives, and other commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Support special events, catering functions, and other operational needs as assigned.
  • Contribute to a positive, respectful, and collaborative kitchen environment that reflects Still Austin's commitment to hospitality and teamwork.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications
  • One (1) to two (2) years of experience in a commercial, high-volume, or scratch kitchen environment.

Certifications
  • Current Texas Food Handler's Certification required.
  • TABC Certification preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in chef-driven, craft, or hospitality-focused restaurant environments.
  • Experience working in high-volume kitchens with an emphasis on consistency and execution.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull food products, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Perform repetitive motions including chopping, stirring, reaching, bending, kneeling, twisting, and lifting.
  • Work safely around hot surfaces, open flames, sharp knives, and commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Tolerate varying temperatures, including hot kitchen environments, walk-in coolers, and freezers.
  • Maintain manual dexterity and coordination necessary for food preparation, cooking, and plating.
  • Work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen environment while maintaining attention to detail and safety.
