SAP Integration Suite Senior Developer

Full-Time | Remote | Quarterly Onsite Travel

Whitehall Resources is seeking an experienced SAP Integration Suite Senior Developer for a major U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) transportation and logistics modernisation project.

This is a full-time, remote opportunity involving the design, development and maintenance of complex integrations between SAP environments and external systems, supporting mission-critical defence transportation, logistics and financial operations.

The successful candidate will bring extensive SAP integration experience, strong technical development capabilities and an understanding of complex, highly regulated government environments.

Position Summary

The SAP Integration Suite Senior Developer will be responsible for designing and delivering solutions that exchange data between SAP instances and external systems across a large-scale DoD transportation and logistics programme.

The integration architecture follows Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) principles and aligns with SAP best practices and enterprise service architecture standards.

The role requires ensuring SAP Integration Suite capabilities support applicable defence transportation, regulatory and financial requirements, while adhering to SAP Clean Core principles and supporting complex integrations across government and commercial transportation ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities Requirements and Solution Design

• Analyse business operations, validate requirements and scope, recommend process improvements, and contribute to level-of-effort estimates.
• Design and develop end-to-end integration flows (iFlows) using synchronous, asynchronous, event-driven and API-led patterns.
• Evaluate, model and design interface objects in line with enterprise service architecture principles.

SAP Integration Suite Development

• Configure connectors, mappings, routing rules and security protocols, including OAuth, SAML and SSL/TLS.
• Configure standard and custom adapters, including SFTP, REST, SOAP, OData, JDBC and IDoc.
• Develop and maintain message mappings, transformations and routing configurations.
• Configure EDI interfaces using Trading Partner Management (TPM), including message implementation guidelines (MIGs), mapping guidelines (MAGs) and relevant adapters.
• Develop Groovy and Java scripts for complex mappings between SAP instances and external systems.
• Monitor, troubleshoot and debug integration flows to resolve errors and performance issues.

SAP Application and Interface Development

• Develop SAP ABAP applications and interfaces.
• Design, test, debug, implement, maintain and document interfaces using SAP Proxy and IDoc technologies.
• Produce and maintain technical designs and specifications.
• Conduct unit, integration and release testing to validate functionality and ensure quality standards are met.
• Participate in code reviews and follow established development standards.

Required Qualifications

• U.S. citizenship.
• Active DoD Secret security clearance or higher.
• 15+ years of SAP experience, including at least 10 years working with SAP integration middleware.
• Previous experience supporting defence transportation operations, systems or programmes.
• Extensive hands‑on experience with SAP Integration Suite, SAP Cloud Integration (CPI) and SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP).
• Strong knowledge of SAP S/4HANA, SAP ECC and BTP architecture.
• Experience designing and implementing point-to-point, hub-and-spoke, publish-subscribe and event-driven integration architectures.
• Proficiency in Groovy scripting, XSLT and API management.
• Strong understanding of EDI standards, including EDIFACT and X12, and experience with defence‑related EDI requirements.
• Experience with REST, SOAP, OData, SFTP, EDI and JSON/XML data formats.
• Experience publishing, securing and monitoring APIs through API Management, including OAuth, SAML and SSL/TLS security policies.
• Knowledge of SAP IDoc processing and monitoring, including CPI IDoc sender and receiver adapters and IDoc-to-XML transformations.
• Knowledge of SAP ABAP client and server proxy technologies.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a technical delivery team.

Desirable Qualifications

• Experience on major DoD logistics modernisation or transportation management programmes.
• Experience with defence EDI standards and related electronic business initiatives.
• Experience working with SAP NS2 or IL5-hosted SAP environments.
• Working knowledge of defence transportation regulations, government financial management requirements and SAP Clean Core principles.
• SAP BTP Integration Suite training or certification.
• A relevant technical degree or equivalent practical experience.
