SAP HANA Architect with Azure Data Lake and Cold Storage Expertise

Duration: 6+ months contract

Location: Remote (within the USA) is acceptable; candidates in the Chicago area are preferred

Role Overview

The SAP HANA Architect with Azure Data Lake and Cold Storage Expertise is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing hybrid data architectures that integrate SAP HANA with Microsoft Azure Data Lake Storage, including the orchestration of cold data tiering and advanced analytics. This role is pivotal in enabling cost-effective, scalable storage solutions for enterprise HANA environment.

This role is ideal for a strategic, hands-on architect who can bridge SAP HANA’s advanced in-memory analytics with Azure’s scalable, cost-effective data lake and cold storage capabilities—enabling modern, data-driven enterprises to maximize the value and accessibility of their SAP data assets

Key Responsibilities

· Lead the migration and integration of SAP HANA datasets into Azure Data Lake Storage, ensuring seamless data flow and accessibility across business units

· Architect scalable, secure, and high-performance data lake environments on Azure, leveraging best practices for data tiering and cold storage to optimize cost and performance

· Enable query federation and transparent access to both hot (in-memory) and cold (Azure Data Lake/Blob Storage) data using SAP HANA Smart Data Access and SAP Data Intelligence

· Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including IT, business stakeholders, and offshore teams—to align data architecture strategies with business objectives and facilitate self-service analytics

· Design and orchestrate data pipelines using SAP Data Intelligence, Azure Data Factory, and related tools to automate data movement, transformation, and storage from SAP HANA to Azure Data Lake and Blob Storage

Required Skills and Qualifications

· 10+ years of experience in enterprise architecture, with a strong focus on data architecture, SAP HANA, XSA and cloud-based solutions.

· Expertise in Microsoft Azure Data Lake Storage and related Azure services.

· Proven experience with SAP HANA data structures, data tiering, and integration with Azure cold storage solutions.

· Proficiency in HANA Modeling and SQL Script along with good exposure to HANA XSA with good expertise in performance optimizations

· Experience with SAP Data Intelligence, SAP IQ, and SAP HANA Smart Data Access for data orchestration and federation

· Strong understanding of Database architecture, ETL/ELT processes, and data warehousing principles.

· Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across business and technical teams

· Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field
