The Sanitation Truck Driver I performs routine and skilled work in the operation of sanitation vehicles and equipment used in the collection and transportation of solid waste, recyclables, yard debris, and other refuse. This position is responsible for safely operating a sanitation truck along designated routes, ensuring timely and efficient waste collection, and performing basic maintenance checks on vehicles. Work is performed under general supervision and in accordance with established safety procedures and departmental guidelines. This role may also involve assisting with loading waste materials and interacting with the public in a courteous and professional manner.

A high school diploma or G.E. D. equivalent is required.
Minimum one year of experience operating medium to heavy equipment.
Must have a valid TN Class B CDL with a clear driving record. If a candidate does not have a valid Tennessee driver's license, they must acquire one within 30 days of hire.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside-weather conditions. Incumbents are exposed to dangerous equipment and to heat, cold, rain, noise, and other adverse conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is also exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand for long periods of time; walk; use hands to grasp, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and climb or balance. The employee must sometimes lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally move, push, pull or carry 75 to 100 lbs. Subjected to extended periods of physical exertion while shoveling and digging. Good hand-eye coordination is required in the operation of large, heavy equipment, especially when operating around construction on right of ways and in tight situations. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to adjust focus. The employee must routinely roll garbage carts from the roadside and driveways to the automatic lift on the sanitation rear loader vehicle. The employee must occasionally roll the garbage carts from the roadside/driveways to the automatic lift on the sanitation sidearm vehicle. The employee must occasionally exit and enter the vehicle to perform these tasks.
The employee must be able to safely operate a commercial / non-commercial vehicle for up to ten hours per day locally throughout Lebanon, Wilson County, and the Landfill.
It shall be the responsibility of the City of Lebanon Utilities Director to assess the type(s) of reasonable accommodations which may be necessary to allow the individual to perform the essential functions of this role and to provide such necessary reasonable accommodations to a qualified individual with a disability, provided that nothing herein shall be construed to require the provision of reasonable accommodations if doing so will impose an undue hardship on the employing agency or a direct threat to the safety of himself/herself or others.
