Job summary

Michael Foods, Inc. Wakefield, NE is seeking a sanitation technician for the 10:30 PM – 7:00 AM shift. This role is responsible for overall equipment cleanliness, adherence to food safety and quality standards, and following SOPs to reduce variability in processes.

Candidates should have prior sanitation or manufacturing experience, basic reading/comprehension and math skills, and the ability to work weekends/holidays. Training provided with strict safety policies.

Qualifications

  • Prior manufacturing and/or sanitation experience preferred.
  • Ability to troubleshoot minor mechanical issues.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a company pallet jack license.
  • Experience with pallet jack and/or forklift preferred.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence and present information.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic.
  • Ability to apply common sense in instructions.
  • Demonstrates open communication and teamwork.
  • Able to work in safety‑conscious environment.

Location Description

Wakefield is one of the largest production facilities within Michael Foods. We serve as a flex plant and are able to produce everything from a whole pasteurized egg to liquid, dried, hardboiled and curds.


Responsibilities

This is a 3rd shift position and the hours are 10:30 PM - 7:00 AM.


POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for overall equipment cleanliness and sanitation of the assigned department area.


This position has the responsibility to comply with Safety work rules at all times as well as an obligation to reinforce Safety as a Core Value.


Ensures that all policies, procedures and activities, related to Food Safety & Quality, are followed and complied with uniformly, in an effort to reduce product and process variability.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Responsible for overall equipment cleanliness and sanitation of department area.

  • Accountable for performing daily, weekly and monthly master sanitation schedules for department area.

  • Responsible for following daily production start-up procedures.

  • Cross-train in sanitation jobs.

  • Report any equipment/mechanical problems.

  • Able to use team efforts when inspecting area.

  • Responsible for following duties of the plant goals without being prompted.

  • Capability to reference the CP Manual for questions about the sanitation program.

  • Has knowledge of, and why, we use chemical handlings procedures while handling chemicals such as caustics, acids, quats, bleach and peracetic.

  • Capability of conducting effective pre-op to RTE standards.

  • Ability to consistently titrate correctly.

  • Replace gaskets.

  • Responsible for daily pre-op inspections.

  • Make sure room complies to regulations.

  • Follows proper SOP's (Standard Operation Procedures).

  • Adhere to safe work practices, follow GMP's, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality or personnel safety.

  • Assumes personal responsibility to insure a safe and healthy workplace for everyone by adhering to all safety policies and procedures.

  • Able to work weekends, holidays and overtime as needed.

  • Insures regulatory compliance at all times.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS


  • Prior manufacturing and/or sanitation experience preferred.

  • Ability to troubleshoot minor mechanical issues.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a company pallet jack license. Experience with pallet jack and/or forklift preferred.

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.

  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Must demonstrate open and honest communication.

  • Demonstrates the ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships and work effectively with others to complete work assignments.

  • Able to safely lift and carry 50lbs.

  • Able to work independently or with others in a team environment depending upon the assignment.

  • Self-motivated while also willing to ask questions and seek direction.

  • Displays responsible behavior at work.

  • Open to change.

  • Ability to work in cold, wet, noisy, dusty and humid environments.

  • Ability to work around required cleaning solutions.

  • Possesses good hand-eye coordination.

  • Able to stand on hard surface most of the shift, ascend and descend stairs, bend, stoop or crouch, grasp and reach.
