Purpose

Reporting directly to the FSQA Manager, this role oversees a contracted sanitation company on the 3rd shift as well as internal sanitation team members. Responsibilities include training, auditing, coordinating daily work activities, and maintaining resources to ensure cleanliness of production equipment and the facility. The role involves reviewing and implementing the master sanitation schedule, sanitation requirements, industry best practices, work procedures, and tasks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Supervise and direct sanitation team members responsible for janitorial duties, washrooms, operational sanitation, and changeover activities.
  2. Schedule and review chemical providers’ titration and service reports to ensure proper sanitation chemical usage.
  3. Develop, review, and implement Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs), including equipment disassembly and breakdown procedures.
  4. Oversee sanitation team responsible for tasks outlined in SSOPs and the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS).
  5. Manage and maintain chemical inventory, supplies, and relevant documentation.
  6. Plan and oversee sanitation schedules and activities to ensure facility cleanliness and operational efficiency.
  7. Train team members on proper equipment disassembly, handling, maintenance, and sanitation.
  8. Train team members on proper equipment usage to prevent damage and ensure proper maintenance.
  9. Ensure understanding of sanitation chemicals, titration procedures, and fogging techniques.
  10. Ensure compliance with sanitation policies through training, mentoring, and coaching.
  11. Conduct initial, annual, and refresher training for sanitation employees across all shifts.
  12. Enforce GMP regulations and SQF policies, following FDA and USDA requirements.
  13. Provide ongoing feedback on MSS effectiveness, deficiencies, non-compliance issues, and areas for improvement.
  14. Assist in validation activities of the sanitation program.
  15. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in sanitation processes.
  16. Utilize allergen swabs, ATP programs, and testing devices daily to verify equipment cleanliness.
  17. Enforce safety requirements, including PPE usage.
  18. Perform other assigned tasks.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  1. Fluent in English; bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  2. Ability to work independently.
  3. Intermediate computer skills: email, Excel, Word, spreadsheets, tablets, digital MSS programs.
  4. 5+ years in the food industry, with at least 2 years in a sanitation role.
  5. Prior supervisory experience with strong leadership and team-building skills.
  6. Strong attention to detail and communication skills.
  7. Ability to handle cross-functional differences and reach resolution.
  8. Respectful communication and team collaboration skills.
  9. Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
  10. Ability to work various shifts in a fast-paced environment.
Work Environment
  1. 80% refrigerated (40F) and wet environment.
  2. 20% office environment.
  3. Some lifting and bending.
