Job description

This Sanitation Supervisor position is responsible for the supervision and coordination of activities of production associates in processing materials and manufacturing products, with an emphasis on sanitation processes and practices. The Sanitation Supervisor leads production associates in their efforts to ensure the facility and its equipment are cleaned efficiently, safely and sanitized within Good Manufacturing Practices guidelines and waste is disposed in accordance with established plant and government environmental standards.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in sanitation practices within a food processing environment, with hands-on CIP (Clean-In-Place) system experience. This role is responsible for ensuring that all equipment and facility areas are cleaned and sanitized in accordance with regulatory and company standards to support food safety, quality, and operational efficiency.The Sanitation Supervisor interacts with Sanitation, Warehouse, Quality Assurance, Human Resources, and Operations staff to ensure the production of products meeting quality standards in a timely fashion.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Supervise and lead the sanitation team in cleaning all facility equipment and structures according to established procedures and schedules.
  • Ensure safe and proper operation, disassembly, cleaning (including CIP systems), and reassembly of all production equipment.
  • Train and monitor staff to ensure compliance with all safety laws, regulations, and company safety policies.
  • Delegate, organize, and prioritize daily sanitation tasks across the team.
  • Maintain accurate cleaning records and documentation for audits and inspections.
  • Instill a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement within the sanitation team.
  • Promote and enforce Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety protocols, and company quality standards.
  • Monitor and adjust sanitation schedules to meet production needs without compromising cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Coordinate effectively with production and maintenance departments to support a cohesive operational flow.
  • Manage labor and supply costs within departmental budgetary guidelines.
  • Provide performance feedback and coaching to sanitation team members.
  • Conduct investigations into sanitation-related issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support training and onboarding of sanitation employees to ensure they understand procedures and expectations.
  • Communicate daily expectations, goals, and issues across shifts.
  • Attend required trainings and workshops to stay current on sanitation best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements :

High school diploma or GED required; additional technical or supervisory training preferred

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in sanitation within a food / production manufacturing environment, preferably dairy or frozen dessert production.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and hands-on experience with CIP systems is required.
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience in a sanitation or production setting.
  • Strong understanding of FDA, USDA, and OSHA regulations as they relate to food safety and sanitation.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and capable of maintaining digital and physical records.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, or holidays as needed.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in cold, wet, or humid conditions.
  • Ability to train on food safety, food quality, regulatory requirements, customer service and continuous improvement.
  • Solid work history and ability to learn
  • Basic decision making and problem solving skills
  • Bilingual Spanish is a plus

Education and / or Experience :

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or 4-5 years related experience and / or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Food Safety & Quality Requirements / Responsibilities :

  • Adheres to all Food Safety / Quality SOP’s
  • Accurately completes require Food Safety & Quality Records
  • Communicates any known or suspected Food Safety / Quality issues to the Q.A Manager and Department Manager
  • Attends all Food Safety / Quality training sessions

While performing the duties of this job, Requires the employee to stand for long periods of time, walk, frequent lifting of material up to 50 pounds and frequent twisting, turning, reaching, pushing and pulling use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs, balance; stoop, kneel or crouch; talk and hear.

Work is normally performed in a warehouse / production environment As part of the job requirements employee may be exposed to work in a production setting and cold temperature (-20 degrees) at times. Must be flexible with work schedule that supports a 24 hour production facility. Schedule may include weekends.
