Job summary

SURGE Staffing is seeking a Sanitation Manager for a fast-paced food manufacturing facility in Kentucky. You will direct sanitation teams, ensure compliance with food safety standards, and collaborate with maintenance and FSQA to meet sanitary design and regulatory requirements.

The role leads training, budgeting, audits, and cost-saving initiatives, with 3–5 years’ experience preferred. Salary range is $70,000–$80,000 plus comprehensive benefits and opportunities for advancement.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years’ experience in manufacturing or food production.
  • Knowledge of BRC, SQF, GMP, HACCP standards.
  • Familiar with sanitation chemicals and cleaning practices.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and train plant sanitation supervisors and staff to meet food safety standards.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance, FSQA, and vendors on sanitary design and installation.
  • Work with sanitation chemical providers to ensure cost-effective sanitation.
  • Develop and manage the sanitation department budget.
  • Lead sanitation verification and audits and address deficiencies.
  • Lead projects to improve sanitation execution and reduce costs.
  • Participate in third-party audits and regulatory inspections.

This position leads development, compliance, training, problem-solving, best-practice development, and technical support in sanitation. You will direct the work activities of the facility sanitation teams, including hourly and salaried sanitation team members.

Responsibilities:
Our Sanitation Manager values Character (Faith), Community (Family), and Commitment (Future). The job responsibilities of our Sanitation Manager are to:
  • Direct and train Plant Sanitation Supervisors and Sanitors in daily sanitation activities to achieve on-time starts that meet all food safety requirements.
  • Work closely with Maintenance, FSQA, and equipment vendors to ensure new or modified equipment meets sanitary design and regulatory requirements before purchase and installation. Validate that equipment modifications or new equipment can effectively be cleaned and sanitized to an acceptable microbial level.
  • Work closely with sanitation chemical providers to leverage technical expertise and drive results while remaining cost-effective.
  • Develop and manage the department's operating budget.
  • Lead plant sanitation verification and auditing process. Work with appropriate internal partners to address and resolve deficiencies.
  • Lead facility projects resulting in more effective execution of sanitation and monitoring processes as well as cost savings initiatives.
  • Participate in 3rd-party audits and regulatory inspections, representing the sanitation function.
Qualifications:
  • 3-5 Years' experience preferred
  • Previous manufacturing and/or food production experience is preferred
  • Knowledge of BRC, SQF, GMP, and other food safety standards, including HACCP or similar food industry regulations;
  • Knowledge of chemicals used in food plant cleaning and sanitation in addition to practices, procedures and guidelines;
  • Experience using Microsoft Office and other computer-based applications (iPad, OneNote, etc.);
  • Familiarity with Unions
