PURPOSE STATEMENT:
The Sanitation Lead is responsible for executing sanitation procedures within all plant food processing areas to ensure consumer safety and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. They maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the work area and equipment, oversee sanitation team activities, and perform the duties outlined below:
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties):
- Coordinate with maintenance and sanitation crew to dismantle production lines and equipment for cleaning.
- Direct and coordinate daily sanitation activities within the processing plant and surrounding grounds.
- Ensure staff are informed of safety requirements, maintaining safety as a priority.
- Adhere to all relevant CGMP, GFSI, AIB, FDA, SQF, FSMA, and HACCP procedures related to cleanliness, food safety, and pest control; supervise sanitation team to ensure compliance.
- Promote a safe working environment through knowledge of sanitation programs and safety commitments.
- Disassemble and reassemble production lines and equipment as needed for cleaning.
- Clean floors, air lines, hoses, and other equipment thoroughly.
- Remove and replace equipment to meet production setup requirements.
- Sanitize production equipment in preparation for maintenance and setup.
- Clean and sanitize all equipment, chemical rooms, processing floors, restrooms, and other designated areas.
- Maintain cleanliness of wash buckets, trash cans, handrails, and other assigned equipment until shift end.
- Handle removal of production waste, including garbage and render.
- Work around and clean various ingredients such as wheat, soy, dairy, eggs, and flour.
- Train sanitation personnel on best practices, safety, SDS, HAZCOM, and PPE use.
- Manage daily scheduling, resource allocation, and shift paperwork including logs and reports.
- Collaborate with quality control and production teams as part of plant leadership.
- Coordinate sanitation and maintenance activities per master schedule and end-of-week sanitation plans.
- Ensure documentation and records comply with requirements.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, including equipment operation, janitorial duties, and personnel scheduling.
Requirements
Technical Knowledge:
- Ability to read and understand instructions, memos, and correspondence.
- Effective communication skills for one-on-one and small group interactions.
- Basic math skills for measurements and calculations.
- Proficiency with hand tools, organization, and mechanical comprehension.
- Ability to create and maintain reports and communicate written and verbal information effectively.
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED, or three years of sanitation experience (required).
- Associate degree in food science, QA, sanitation, or pest control (preferred).
- Licenses/certifications in pest control and AIB sanitation practices (preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years related work experience in food sanitation operations, procedures, chemicals, and standards, preferably in food manufacturing (required).
Physical Requirements:
Work involves exposure to moving parts, wet/humid conditions, heat, cold, chemicals, and noise. Must lift up to 70 pounds, stand, walk, reach, and perform physical tasks regularly. Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment. Reasonable accommodations may be made for disabilities.
