Sugar Cane Growers Cooperative of Florida is seeking a laboratory sample collector to periodically gather cane juice, molasses, mill mud, raw sugar and other samples for testing in the Technical Department. The role includes cleaning containers, helping maintain inventories, and upholding safety standards in a hot and physically demanding environment.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, strong communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently

• Walk through the Mill on a rotational schedule to collect samples for testing by Laboratory personnel.
• Clean sample containers/receptacles and assist in maintaining reagents and supplies inventory.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area following OSHA standards and safety procedures.
• Perform related projects as needed and support sample handling and data recording.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Periodically employee is required to walk throughout the Mill to various designated sample collection points and collect samples to be tested in the Technical Department. Employee is responsible for completing various cleaning tasks in and around the Technical Department.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:On a rotational timed schedule, collect various cane juice, molasses, mill mud, raw sugar, bagasse and other various samples to be tested by Laboratory personnel.Additionally, clean sample containers/ receptacles.Assist in maintaining the inventory of reagents, chemicals, and supplies needed for analyses.Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate / OSHA Standards and performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.Performs other related projects and assignments as business dictates.SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to comprehend instructions.Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management.Ability to adapt quickly to a multicultural environment.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.Bilingual and Biliterate – English and Spanish, preferred.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:High school diploma or GED with basic skill set levels.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Regular attendance is required during your scheduled shift, which will include weekends and holidays.Must be able to work in hot, cold, wet, humid, dusty, and foggy working conditions depending on weather.Prolonged periods of standing, and capable of climbing stairs numerous times during the shift.Must be able to work in all positions (overhead, kneeling, reaching, crawling & working in small workspaces) & be able to carry and lift up to 50 pounds.COMPANY VISION:SCGC’s vision is to deliver the greatest value to our member-growers and employees by being an industry leader in all we do.
