Job summary

Synthomer, a leading polymers company, seeks a Jefferson Hills-based Sample Room Clerk to manage stock, repackaging duties, labeling, and shipping sample materials. You will handle Hazmat shipments in compliance with DOT and IATA, using SAP and related systems.

Responsibilities include maintaining accurate records, supporting shipping processes, and providing cross-functional coverage within the Sample Shipment area.

Qualifications

• High School education or equivalent.
• Lift 50 lbs. regularly.
• Have a valid state driver’s license and obtain a lift truck operator’s license.
• Be detail oriented and comply with complex regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Maintain stock of products available for immediate shipment and packaging supplies.
• Repackage hazardous and non-hazardous materials into sample containers per instructions.
• Generate and apply labels for containers and shipping packaging.
• Process Hazmat sample shipments using hazardous shipments software and SAP transactions.
• Coordinate miscellaneous shipping orders and maintain shipment records.
• Provide coverage for other Shipping area positions as needed.

Synthomer provides small amounts of our commercial products and experimental materials as samples to our customers and distributors. The Jefferson Sample Room Clerk prepares these samples by repackaging material from larger containers and applying the appropriate labels for shipment. The position requires a knowledgeable person with attention to detail who can safely handle a wide variety of materials and follow procedures to meet DOT and IATA shipping standards.

Job Duties:

• Maintain stock of products that are available and suitable for immediate shipment
• Maintain stock of packaging supplies
• Obtain sample orders from Sample Central/CSRs and interpret the delivery notes
• Properly use safety equipment during repackaging operations
• Repackage hazardous and non-hazardous materials from larger containers (such as 55-gallon drums 50-lb bags) into sample containers (ranging from 1 ounce to 300 pound drums)
• Correctly generate and apply the appropriate labels for the container and shipping packaging
• Remain current with regulations and training necessary for processing and shipping Hazmat samples
• Complete all SAP transactions involved with sample shipments
• Utilize hazardous shipments software to prepare and process Hazmat sample shipments
• Coordinate and process miscellaneous shipping orders (MSOs)
• Maintain records of sample shipments per the record retention requirements
• Maintain general housekeeping in the Sample Shipment area
• Provide vacation/absentee coverage for other Shipping area positions

Qualifications

Education: Minimum High School education or the equivalent.

Employees assigned to this classification must:

• Have valid state motor vehicle driver’s license and obtain lift truck operator’s license
• Have successfully completed appropriate training for the job
• Be detail oriented and able to understand and comply with complex regulatory requirements
• Possess and practice good organizational skills
• Lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis

• Ability to multi-task and to work with minimal supervision
• Be willing to work overtime as necessary
