Job summary

Onterris in Emeryville, CA is seeking a Full-Time Sample Receiving Technician I (Laboratory Technician I) to join the Sample Receiving/Sample Control team. You will receive environmental samples, log data, and support lab operations to ensure on-time results.

The role requires physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, attention to detail, and familiarity with lab safety. Training will cover SOPs, quality assurance, and use of LIMS.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be able to move and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to remain in a stationary position for the duration of shift while performing frequent routine tasks.

Responsibilities

• Receives environmental samples into the laboratory according to SOPs.
• Performs data entry of sample and test information into Laboratory Information System (LIMS).
• Label sample containers, store them in appropriate locations and/or contact the proper department to inform them of short holding time and/or rush requests.
• Assists in sample bottle preparation.
• Assists in sample management/archiving and disposal.
• Assists in sample pickup or field sampling, if needed.
• Assists in the coordination of daily field sampling/pickup schedule, if needed.
• Participates in focus teams to improve efficiency.
• Comply with Onterris Quality Assurance Program.
• Comply with Onterris Health and Safety Plan.
• Other duties as assigned.

A Day in the Life

As a Full-Time Sample Receiving Technician I (Laboratory Technician I) in our Emeryville, CA Service Center, you'll be the first step in ensuring accurate, reliable results for our clients. From receiving and tracking samples to supporting laboratory operations, you'll help keep work flowing efficiently, safely, and on schedule. You'll play a key role in handling samples, keeping records accurate, and maintaining a clean laboratory to support on-time results everyday. You'll collaborate with a strong team of committed professionals, contribute to meaningful scientific work, and grow your expertise in a dynamic, quality-driven environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in working under possibly hazardous conditions (e.g. pathogens or chemicals). They will be well-trained to maintain safety conditions and will be passionate for doing work that makes things move forward.

The compensation range for this role is $20.50 / hour , commensurate with experience, skills, and geographic location.

Department: Sample Receiving/Sample Control

Schedule: Monday - Friday 10am - 6:30 pm

• Ability to prioritize and route multiple incoming samples while balancing competing deadlines and turnaround requirements

• Ability to recognize issues, evaluate impacts, and elevate concerns appropriately
• Strong communicationskills and confidence interacting with laboratory staff, couriers, project managers, and operations personnel
• General understanding of environmental laboratory analyses, sample preservation requirements and holding times
