Sample Receiving Technician

Position Summary
The position functions in a lead and subject matter expert capacity in supporting the Sample Receiving area by overseeing the smooth transition of the lab workflow involved in receiving and processing samples. The position also is responsible for training new Sample Receiving Technicians and answering technical questions.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Proficiency in every aspect of Sample Receiving department and ability to support department with technical training needs and questions on documentation and procedures, providing instructions when needed.
- Discuss ways to improve time management for self and department with supervisor/manager.
- Assist in training of new Sample Receiving Technicians in sample and receiving log‑in processing procedures, including computer system entry and shipping procedures.
- Receive and log‑in samples in the LIMS system. Assist laboratory personnel in re‑keying samples such as re‑testing, correcting worksheets and work‑orders, and reprinting worksheets.
- Contact internal and external clients by telephone to communicate sample problems or discuss follow‑up questions.
- Schedule employees for lab assignments when lead, supervisor or manager is not available to do so.
- Ensure all samples are accounted for at the end of the day and follow‑up on any issues that are found.
- Assist supervisor/lead in tracking and monitoring errors and ensuring 'on hold' sample projects are followed up on and processed appropriately.
- Create, investigate and resolve a CCNC independently but with advice from leadership when needed.
Qualifications Required
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in laboratory with knowledge of safety procedures and policies. Associates degree or equivalent work experience. Experience specific to Receiving departments preferred. Proven experience with data entry and clerical skills. Advanced interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Client Service experience preferred.

- Internal Interlocutors: The incumbent has occasional contact with the personnel outside the immediate working unit.
- External Interlocutors: Not applicable.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- The incumbent works in a laboratory setting with proper lighting and temperature control. Occasional exposure to laboratory fumes, chemicals, and materials will occur when in the laboratory. Safety equipment of gloves, laboratory coat and eyeglasses may need to be worn depending on the testing process. Continuous lifting of analysis materials weighing up to 50 pounds are necessary to transport materials. The incumbent can expect extended time spent in a standing position.
Compensation
$19.50/hr USD
