Job Title: Sample Management CoordinatorJob Description

The Sample Management Coordinator supports laboratory operations by overseeing the receipt, tracking, storage, and distribution of samples and standards. This role follows established procedures, assists laboratory personnel with sample management processes, and helps ensure compliance with laboratory and regulatory requirements. It offers valuable exposure to clinical processes and an opportunity to build experience in a large, professionally run laboratory environment.

Responsibilities
  • Receive, log, label, inventory, store, and distribute samples and standards in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records and track sample status throughout the laboratory workflow to ensure full traceability.
  • Communicate sample status, issues, and updates clearly and promptly to laboratory staff.
  • Support proper sample handling, storage, and documentation practices to maintain sample integrity and data quality.
  • Review laboratory requests to verify they comply with established procedures and standard operating practices.
  • Assist with investigations, deviations, corrective actions, and preventive actions (CAPAs) related to sample management.
  • Train laboratory personnel on sample management procedures, documentation expectations, and storage requirements.
  • Respond to environmental monitoring alarms and participate in on-call support as needed to protect sample quality.
  • Follow all safety, quality, and regulatory requirements in daily work activities.
  • Complete assigned work accurately and within established timelines, prioritizing tasks effectively.
Essential Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in sample management, inventory control, laboratory operations, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of inventory management and sample tracking processes.
  • Understanding of laboratory documentation practices and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to review and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) consistently.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple samples and tasks simultaneously.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for interacting with laboratory staff and documenting activities.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities in a laboratory or operational setting.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within a team environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Associate degree, technical certificate, or relevant vocational training in a scientific, technical, or related field preferred.
  • Experience in clinical or regulated laboratory environments is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with CAPA processes and deviation investigations is an advantage.
  • Comfort working with established SOPs and quality systems.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and laboratory workflows.

This role is based in a laboratory setting, working closely with approximately 5–10 other coordinators. The environment is structured, process-driven, and focused on safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. Work involves regular handling, labeling, and storage of samples and standards, as well as frequent use of computers and Microsoft Office applications for tracking and documentation. Team members collaborate daily with laboratory staff and may participate in on-call support to respond to environmental monitoring alarms. Professional, appropriate laboratory attire is expected, and employees follow all safety and quality guidelines while working in a controlled lab environment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Richmond, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.18 - $20.20/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
