Job summary

EY is seeking a Tax Manager within the State and Local Tax (SALT) practice in the United States. The role focuses on advising on indirect tax changes, designing compliant operating models, and leading optimization initiatives for financial services clients.

You’ll develop tax strategies, manage client relationships, and work in a collaborative, hybrid environment. Ideal candidates hold a bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance/economics, 4–6 years of experience, and strong tax technical skills,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (4‑year) with an emphasis in accounting, finance, or economics.
• Typically 4–6 years of relevant experience.
• Strong tax technical skills including tax research and writing, flow through entity taxation, income and franchise taxes, transfer taxes, and compliance for multi-state jurisdictions.
• Project management experience delivering high‑quality work in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Tax legislation and impact assessment; indirect tax refund and review; tax planning and optimization.
• Process improvement and optimization; risk mitigation; data analysis and interpretation.
• Building and managing relationships; client trust and value; communicating with impact.
• Emotional agility; hybrid collaboration; complex problem solving; critical thinking; leading teams.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the overall success of the team by developing understanding of EY methodologies and tools.
• Challenging traditional procedures and finding new approaches to address tax matters.
• Build client relationships and demonstrate knowledge of the financial services industry.
• Stay abreast of state and local tax developments and trends affecting the marketplace.
• Lead workstream delivery, track status and deliverables, participate in client working sessions; identify opportunities for additional services; manage engagement economics and budgets.
• Guide teams, drive improvement, and propose solutions by interpreting internal/external issues; travel regularly for external clients.
