Overview
Salon Manager (BTC 1) at JCPenney Salon. As a behind the chair salon manager, you may work up to 16 hours per week behind the chair with your own clientele, alongside your team. Leaders coach and motivate the team to become top salon professionals, supporting the business to drive retail and service results through marketing, networking, and client loyalty. The salon is a key driver of traffic and revenue for the JCPenney company. As a leader you will represent the company values to make it count for customers.
Primary Responsibilities
Client Experience
- Leads by example in interactions with clients, supporting stylists to provide an exceptional client experience
- Creates an environment that inspires associates to build client loyalty through coaching and feedback
- Motivates and engages the team to provide exceptional service through communication, coaching, and recognition
- Provides services including cut/style and chemical services for all hair types, and performs other hair styling services as required
Team Development
- Proactively recruits qualified stylists through social media, recruiting websites, referrals, and engagement with local salons and cosmetology schools
- Provides coaching and feedback that is frequent, balanced, and meaningful
- Creates opportunities for learning that drive associate success
- Ensures stylists complete available training by scheduling for Core and Artistic Education as offered internally
- Fosters an inclusive, respectful, professional, and fun salon environment
Business Performance
- Reviews reports to identify opportunities and sets direction to achieve productivity, referrals, rebooking, return rate, and client acquisition standards
- Delivers salary cost objectives to achieve profit plan
Merchandising
- Adjusts according to SET guidance and maintains core standards; identifies merchandising and recovery opportunities; manages backbar expenses
Performance Standards / Programs
- Meets established performance standards for product and service sales, client experience, productivity, and attendance; follows company programs and safety regulations
Cosmetology License
A current cosmetology license is required in the state of application.

Competitive wage with 50% commission on service sales behind the chair and 10% commission on retail sold with a service. Eligible for bonus under the Management Incentive Plan.
