This position serves our partners at both the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) and the Minnesota Board of Animal Health (BAH). The MNIT MDA and BAH teams support technology critical to ensuring food supply integrity and safety, livestock health, and supporting a vibrant agricultural economy for Minnesota.

This position exists to provide technical expertise in the development and operation of new and existing custom software applications within the Department of Agriculture (MDA). Responsibilities include supporting the MNIT development team in the maintenance, administration, and enhancement of the Salesforce Customer Relationship Management system and the associated system modernization, a cloud hosted, serverless platform, custom built application based on modern development techniques, methodologies, and technologies for the Department. This position also includes additional non-salesforce architecture design, development and execution as needed and prioritized by the MDA and MNIT leadership.

As a senior-level expert, the developer will provide guidance in application design and architecture, ensuring all technical aspects adhere to established standards and protocols. The incumbent will also research emerging technologies and create plans for implementing innovative solutions across the Department of Agriculture (MDA). Serves as a backup to other staff during absences for enterprise and legacy application support.

  • This position is temporary and includes full state fringe benefits; it is anticipated to last for up to two (2) years.

This position requires an employee to be onsite in St. Paul, Minnesota at least 50% of the time, with some opportunity to perform work from a telework location.

  • Telework for Minnesota IT Services is available on a limited basis.
  • Only candidates residing in Minnesota and its bordering counties are eligible for telework.
  • Candidates residing 50 miles or more from the permanent work location require additional review prior to telework approval upon becoming a finalist.

Minimum Qualifications

Position requires a minimum of four (4) years of IT related experience in Salesforce development.

Experience must include:

  • Experience working with SQL data stores or SOQL within salesforce.
  • Experience with serverless platforms.
  • Experience with Azure cloud services.
  • Experience with Azure Logic Apps, Functions, and DevOps.
  • Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.
  • Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.

A master’s degree in Information Technology or an IT related field substitutes for three (3) years of experience, OR an IT related bachelor’s degree substitutes for two (2) years, OR an IT related associate’s degree substitutes for one (1) year.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with issue tracking, code versioning, and integrated development environments.
  • Experience with Confluence, Jira, Agile Place.
  • Experience with Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code.
  • Experience with Salesforce and/or Azure DevOps platforms.
  • Experience with SSRS and PowerBI for reporting.
  • Experience with IBM DB2 database structure.
  • Pluralsight (or equivalent) Skills Assessment level equal to “Expert” in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, Angular, C#, ASP.NET, Entity Framework, Azure, Node.js, and Git.
