Business Developer / Sales Development Representative

As a Sales and Use Tax Practice Leader, you'll step into a pivotal role within our growing State and Local Tax team - guiding the strategic direction of an already well-established practice with a strong foundation and client base. You'll serve as a trusted advisor to clients, a mentor and motivator to team members, and a key voice in shaping the future of the practice. From leading engagements and delivering cutting-edge tax solutions, to identifying market opportunities and cultivating client relationships, your leadership will drive innovation, excellence, and growth.
Typical Day in the Life
A typical day as a Sales & Use Tax Practice Leader might include:

  • Serving as the go-to leader for all things sales and use tax-providing strategic direction, technical guidance, and mentorship to team members across multiple levels.
  • Expanding upon an established practice by nurturing current client relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and deepening the firm's reputation in the marketplace.
  • Leading business development efforts including proposal development, networking, speaking engagements, and creating go-to-market strategies.
  • Managing and developing a talented team-supporting career growth, providing regular coaching and feedback, and creating an environment that encourages collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Directing and overseeing sales and use tax consulting engagements, including nexus evaluations, taxability analyses, liability quantification, audit support, voluntary disclosures, process optimization, refund claims, transaction advisory, and more.
  • Overseeing all aspects of engagement execution, from initial scoping and budgeting to staffing, project management, and client communication.
  • Monitoring legislative and regulatory developments, issuing internal alerts and client communications to keep stakeholders informed and agile.
  • Contributing to thought leadership through authored content, webinars, presentations, and training sessions.
  • Participating in regular professional development activities to remain at the forefront of state and local tax trends.

Who You Are
  • You have a Bachelor's degree (required); Master of Taxation, MBA, JD, or LLM in Taxation are highly preferred.
  • You bring 12+ years of progressive experience in state and local sales and use tax including experience as a Senior Manager (required).
  • You hold a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, sales/use tax certification (CMI), JD, or LLM in Taxation (required).
  • You have a deep understanding of multistate sales/use tax matters and thrive on navigating complexity and delivering clear, actionable guidance to clients.
  • You're experienced in all core areas of sales/use tax including nexus and taxability analysis, VDAs, audit management, process improvement, exposure mitigation, transaction advisory, and recovery strategies.
  • You're a seasoned business developer-skilled at identifying client needs, crafting compelling solutions, and building long-term relationships.
  • You have a track record of building and growing a successful practice or book of business-demonstrating initiative, strategic thinking, and sustainable client engagement.
  • You are a strong and passionate people leader-committed to team development, mentorship, and creating a culture of accountability and collaboration.
  • You are confident in leading with vision and purpose-able to set priorities, build consensus, and inspire those around you.
  • Bonus if you have experience in areas such as gross receipts/excise taxes, negotiated incentives, property tax, or unclaimed property.

Must be authorized to work in the United States now or in the future without visa sponsorship.

Compensation: $180,000-$255,000
Our compensation philosophy emphasizes competitive and equitable pay. Eide Bailly complies with all local/state regulations regarding displaying ranges. Final compensation decisions are dependent upon factors such as geography, experience, education, skills, and internal equity.
