Summary
Performs Central Office / Field Equipment work and work on, or involving, any associated electronic equipment or facilities (e.g., remote terminals, repeaters, doublers, DSLAM, Ethernet and span terminal shelves) between the Central Office and the Network Interface Device, as well as work on, or involving, any associated customer-owned or provided electronic equipment or facilities.
* Willing/available for call-outs and participate in an on-call rotation schedule
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Review and execute Service Orders (SO) and Projects posted in M6 and MTP
- Use electronic test equipment during any/all types of installation and maintenance as warranted by the work being performed.
- Work with CO, NOC, NAT, LAC, Assignment, Engineering teams on testing and turn ups.
- Install and maintain voice/data services for customers inside and outside the operating territory, to meet customer and PUC standards.
- Perform Periodic Maintenance Program (PMP) on DSLAM Equipment/Cabinets. Perform research trouble tickets, perform maintenance repair and preventative maintenance on copper and fiber cable in conjunction with Sales & Service cable technicians in both aerial, underground, manholes and at customer premises using various plant elements, work with all cable or fiber facilities, aerial or buried, regardless of size.
- Perform work and use hand tools at ground level and aloft on ladders.
- Read and interpret service orders, trouble tickets, circuit diagrams and schematics.
- Learn the installation/operation of new and existing equipment.
- Provide necessary information to complete jobs, trouble tickets and service orders (i.e., dispositions, coding, notes). Coordinate with Assignments department as needed.
- Maintain knowledge of company's products and services to effectively communicate benefits to customers.
- Support and actively promote company products and services.
- Aid and assist other departments and contractors as needed.
- Comply with company vehicle usage and fleet policies.
- Maintain and stock vehicle and equipment to ensure readiness.
- Report vehicle repairs or service needs and schedule maintenance.
- Review services with customers to ensure understanding and agreement. Present product/service options and identify opportunities.
- Follow safety practices, report incidents, and perform safety inspections.
- Inform management of market activities and perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
- Minimum 3 years inside central office plant experience including CO Transport Equipment, DSLAM, HDSL, Nortel DMS or GTD5 switch experience, IXC/customer coordination/interaction for Hot Cuts/SOs/Trouble Tickets.
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Experience in installation, maintenance, repair, and use of communication systems (dial tone, modems, etc.)
- Familiarity with internet browsers and PC troubleshooting skills.
Basic knowledge of
- HSI or broadband connectivity
- Networking, DNS, E-mail, IP networking
- PC hardware
Must also
- Demonstrate interpersonal skills and effective communication.
- Work independently and in teams.
- Prioritize and manage time effectively.
- Operate a motor vehicle with a valid driver’s license; CDL may be required.
- Possess pole climbing certification or ability to obtain it.
Physical Requirements
- Work aloft on ladders, in buckets, and on poles.
- Work in confined spaces and extreme weather conditions.
- Differentiate colors and alarm lights.
- Sit, stand, climb, walk, bend, and stoop regularly.
- Lift and carry equipment weighing approximately 70 lbs.
- Work hours as scheduled, including overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Weight limit of 275 pounds inclusive of clothing and footwear.
Desired Qualifications
- Reside within 35 miles of reporting location preferred.
- Post-high school training in electronics, data, or telecommunications is desirable.
