Job summary

Maine Distributors in Bangor, ME is seeking a Sales Merchandiser to sell and merchandize beer, wine, and soda on an assigned route. You will travel daily to call on customers, display products, rotate stock, and ensure best presentation at the shelf.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED and a short practical experience. You should have a valid Maine driver’s license and be comfortable using mobility software on a smartphone in a dynamic field setting.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1–3 months related experience and/or training preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains good working relationships with purchasing contacts.
  • Travels through assigned territory to call on regular and prospective customers to solicit orders or talks with customers daily.
  • Displays product using appropriate point of sale and emphasizes salable features.
  • Rotates products to ensure sales on a first in, first out basis.
  • Works shelf to ensure labels are facing forward for best presentation.
  • Able to decipher and rotate each package's code.
  • Knows delivery dates based on firm schedules.
  • Confers with Sales Merchandiser's Supervisor to resolve customer problems.
  • Maintains good relationship with Merchandiser on route.
  • Investigates and resolves customer problems with deliveries.
  • Attends Sales Merchandiser meetings as needed.

Summary

Sells and merchandises beer, wine, and soda as needed on assigned sales route.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develops and maintains good working relationships with purchasing contacts.
  • Travels through assigned territory to call on regular and prospective customers to solicit orders or talks with customers on a daily basis.
  • Displays product, using appropriate point of sale, and emphasizes salable features.
  • Rotates products to ensure sales of all beverages are on a "first in first out basis".
  • Works shelf to be sure labels are facing forward to make for best presentation of products.
  • Able to decipher and rotate each package's code.
  • Knows date of delivery to customer, based on knowledge of own firm's delivery schedules.
  • Confers with Sales Merchandiser's Supervisor to resolve customer problems and communicate market activity.
  • Maintains good work relationship with the Merchandiser assigned to his/her route. (Where applicable in each route.)
  • Investigates and resolves customer problems with deliveries.
  • Attends Sales Merchandiser meetings as needed.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and preferrably one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos, and emails. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to use simple math addition and subtraction up to three digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of different pallet quantities and layers of pallets.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with customer's objections and overcome those objections without negative reactions.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of ability to understand current inventory levels in the provided devise and in Mobility software. Individual should possess a smart phone and have service and email available at all times during the day.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Current Driver's License (minimum Class C) in good standing with the state of Maine. Company will provide a Sales License through the State of Maine as long as individual can pass criteria to obtain the license.
