Job description

Clariant is seeking an experienced Sales Manager to lead commercial activities for our Syngas Catalyst portfolio across the U.S. and Canada. This role is ideal for someone with a strong scientific background and proven experience selling into the refining, ammonia, and hydrogen sectors.

The successful candidate will have hands-on familiarity with catalyst applications, including comfort entering refineries and plants where catalysts are loaded, and will bring a deep understanding of Syngas processes and customer needs. You will be responsible for driving commercial growth, expanding key accounts, and managing relationships with distributors and channel partners throughout North America-with a strong preference for candidates with an established network, including in Canada.

This is a high-impact role requiring both technical credibility and sales acumen to succeed in large, complex industrial environments. Clariant offers a competitive salary, annual bonus, company vehicle, visa sponsorship (if needed), paid time off (PTO), and more.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the complete sales process: customer acquisition, proposal generation, risk assessment, contract negotiation, and after-sales support
  • Serve as the main commercial and technical point of contact for customers
  • Maintain and grow existing accounts through regular engagement and technical discussions
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities by understanding customer technologies and aligning them with Clariant’s catalyst solutions
  • Maintain accurate forecasts and reporting in systems like CRM, Installed Volume, Miller-Heimann Sheets, and Call Reports
  • Develop pricing strategies and margin expectations based on market and competitive analysis
  • Collaborate with Applied Catalyst Technology and Technical/Application teams to deliver high-quality after-sales support
  • Provide on-site services including start-up support, operator training, data evaluation, troubleshooting, and spent catalyst analysis
  • Contribute to the maintenance of design guidelines, technical documentation, and customer reference lists
  • Participate in technical and commercial training programs organized by Clariant and clients
  • Conduct internal training sessions to share technical knowledge and support sales coaching within the team
  • Adhere to Clariant and client-specific safety training requirements
  • Gather and share market and competitor intelligence to support internal teams including R&D and Business Development
  • Represent Clariant at industry conferences, congresses, and customer events
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a Science related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the chemical industry, with a strong focus on technical sales or commercial roles involving industrial process technologies
  • Technical understanding of catalyst behavior, reactor systems, or industrial gas processing equipment is essential
  • Hands-on experience in Syngas applications—including hydrogen, ammonia, or methanol production
  • Proven ability to engage with refineries, plant operators, and technical stakeholders on-site, including during catalyst loading, troubleshooting, and performance evaluations, preferred
  • Demonstrated success in managing and growing key accounts within large, complex industrial organizations
  • Existing network of customers, channel partners, and distributors across North America is highly desirable; familiarity with the Canadian market is a plus
