Sales Manager - Infrastructure & Energy Solutions (California)
As an Energy Sales Manager, you will play a critical role in driving infrastructure modernization, energy transformation, and sustainability initiatives across California. Working with both public-sector organizations and private-sector clients, you will help customers improve energy resilience, reduce operating costs, optimize facility performance, and achieve long-term sustainability and decarbonization goals through innovative, performance-based solutions.
In this highly consultative role, you will serve as a trusted advisor to executive and operational leaders, helping them navigate complex energy and infrastructure decisions. You will identify opportunities to deploy distributed energy resources, facility upgrades, and alternative financing solutions that address aging infrastructure, operational challenges, energy reliability concerns, capital constraints, and carbon reduction objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain trusted relationships with senior executives, facility leaders, and key decision-makers across both public and private sector organizations.
- Identify, pursue, and develop new business opportunities within municipalities, educational institutions, healthcare systems, commercial and industrial facilities, real estate portfolios, and other institutional markets throughout California.
- Engage executive stakeholders to assess infrastructure, energy, resilience, and sustainability needs and develop strategic modernization roadmaps.
- Conduct consultative sales engagements to uncover customer challenges related to energy costs, operational efficiency, deferred maintenance, business continuity, and sustainability goals.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, finance, and project development teams to create comprehensive customer solutions.
- Lead the development of proposals that incorporate technical design concepts, financial analysis, lifecycle cost savings, resiliency benefits, and emissions reduction outcomes.
- Maintain accurate forecasting, territory planning, CRM updates, and pipeline management practices.
- Stay current on distributed energy resources and emerging technologies, including solar PV, battery energy storage systems, microgrids, CHP, EV charging infrastructure, building automation, and energy efficiency solutions.
- Monitor market trends, regulatory developments, incentive programs, and funding opportunities that impact both public and private sector customers.
- Structure and present alternative financing and delivery models, including Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS), Power Purchase Agreements (PPA), Energy Savings Performance Contracts (ESPC), leasing structures, and other performance-based solutions.
- Support customers through complex purchasing, procurement, and project approval processes.
- Travel throughout California as needed (approximately 30%).
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional sales experience.
- 5+ years of consultative sales, business development, or account management experience involving complex solutions and multiple stakeholders.
- 3+ years of experience in energy services, energy infrastructure, distributed energy resources, ESCO services, facility modernization, or related industries.
- Proven ability to build relationships with executive-level decision-makers and manage long sales cycles.
- Strong financial and business acumen with the ability to communicate technical and economic value propositions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated success generating new business and expanding relationships within public-sector, institutional, commercial, industrial, or corporate accounts.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Energy Management, Environmental Sciences, or a related field preferred.
- Experience developing and selling distributed energy projects, including solar PV, battery storage, microgrids, CHP, and other onsite energy solutions.
- Knowledge of alternative financing and project delivery models, including EaaS, PPA, ESPC, and similar structures.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams to develop customer-specific energy and infrastructure strategies.
- Familiarity with California energy markets, sustainability initiatives, resilience planning, and decarbonization programs.
- Strong presentation, negotiation, and executive communication skills.
