Job summary

The Estimator position at Lyman-Richey Corporation, a CRH Company, is based in Omaha, Nebraska. You will prepare material quantities, equipment and man-hour estimates from plans, specs, and online sources, building project budgets for management review.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • ACI Grade 1 Certification preferred (or the ability to obtain).
  • Experience in a building materials/construction industry preferred.

Position Overview

The Estimator position is responsible for using a combination of past experiences and project specifications to accurately estimate the amount of materials, equipment, and/or man hours that must be utilized to complete a given project. Based upon these calculations, they create a project budget that is then presented to Management. All necessary details must meet not only legal, but also company policies and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
  • Perform concrete, aggregate and related material takeoffs (mix specifications and rough quantities) from plans and specifications at customers’ locations or from on-line internet services.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings to take notes and relay information to appropriate departments and personnel.
  • Identify concrete, aggregates, and related materials within the specifications of identified projects.
  • Address customer inquiries or concerns related to products and services. May be responsible for contacting the customer directly for clarification on quotes, resolving issues, change orders or other topics.
  • Possess or develop the knowledge of basic concrete and aggregate technologies.
  • Prepare verbal and/or written quotations of concrete and related materials for bidding purposes, commercial projects, annual customer requirements, state, county and municipal requirements.
  • Input quotes and other information into computer systems based on information gathered by estimators and the sales team.
  • Track the projects quoted, help maintain schedules and follow-up on the project or sale of materials.
  • Prepare project price information for the sale of the products quoted and/or required.
  • Research various construction projects in our markets by utilizing the internet, professional organizations, periodicals and other forums to generate new leads.
  • Assist and provide Technical Services Manager with required information for the proper preparation of concrete and material certifications for specific projects.
  • Any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education/Experience
  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • ACI Grade 1 Concrete Field-Testing Technician Certification preferred (or the ability to obtain).
  • Experience in a building materials/construction industry preferred.
Work Requirements
  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • On-time and consistent attendance is required. Must be willing to work evenings and weekends if necessary.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required (less than 10% of the time).
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft suite of tools including Excel, Word and Outlook, and database software. Must be able to utilize internet and communicate effectively.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment, assisting co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Must display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
  • Must display a willingness and ability to work in and adapt to changes in circumstances, tasks, customer needs and other conditions that may affect their daily responsibilities.
  • Proven ability to develop relationships and to work with teams as both a leader and a participant. Effective interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Able to communicate with others by telephone and in person.
  • Able to utilize office equipment including a computer for word processing, email communication, and preparation of documents and presentations.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
