About the role

As a Sales Engineer at Samsara, you’ll be part of a diverse team helping modernize essential industries through cutting-edge IoT solutions. This role specifically supports our Public Sector customer base (City/County/State/Public Schools; excludes Federal level). Examples include Waste Management fleets, City Buses, Police Cars, Fire Trucks, School Buses, Snow Plows, and similar operations. Your work contributes to a cleaner, more efficient supply chain by enabling safer roadways, reducing fuel consumption and emissions, and providing a consolidated platform for connecting operations. You will engage with customers on how IoT can impact logistics management, workplace safety programs, fleet maintenance, asset management, and regulatory compliance. The role requires a thorough understanding of IoT hardware and sensors, hands-on hardware installation strategies, data collection over carrier networks, cloud infrastructure, and building third-party system integrations via our open API to ensure the best technical solution for customers.

Citizenship and location

Because this role supports our Public Sector customer base, all candidates must be US citizens. This is a remote position open to candidates residing in the United States, excluding the San Francisco Bay Area, NYC Area, and Washington, D.C. Area. Relocation assistance will not be provided for this role.

In this role, you will

  • Champion and embody Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally.
  • Become an expert on Samsara products and the application of cutting-edge tech (IoT, AI, computer vision) to digital transformation of physical operations.
  • Explain to prospects how other customers use Samsara to solve industry challenges.
  • Deliver work products that advance deals (discoveries, demonstrations, value assessments, proof of concept implementations).
  • Guide installers through scenarios and deployment planning with best practices.
  • Write scripts against our open API to solve real-world problems and document them for peers.
  • Open doors for deeper engagement (integration, upsell, cross-sell) by acting as a consultant to customers.
  • Serve as a liaison between product and sales, translating feedback and enrolling customers in beta programs.

Minimum requirements for the role

  • Bachelors’ of Science degree from a 4-year accredited university
  • 2+ years experience in a pre-sales, customer success, or customer/product support role
  • Ability to influence stakeholders through technical sales acumen and understanding of business processes
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Experience managing hardware and/or software product evaluations
  • Basic understanding of electronics and electrical systems
  • Knowledge of technical consulting, cloud software, cloud-connected hardware, computer networking, systems integration, automation and control
  • Must be located in the United States and authorized to work

An ideal candidate also has

  • Bachelors’ of Science degree or advanced education in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or related field
  • Experience scripting and transferring data between systems (Bash, Python, JavaScript, or equivalent)
  • Experience building solutions leveraging open APIs
  • Experience working with Public Sector customers
  • Understanding of vehicle diagnostics and CAN bus/PTO applications
  • Interest in electronics-driven projects (car audio, home automation, Raspberry Pi, Arduino, etc.)
  • Proven success selling complex technical solutions through strategic sales cycles

Compensation

The range of annual on-target earnings (OTE) for this full-time role is below and may vary by city and experience: $92,879.50 – $140,490 USD.
