Job Summary The Sales Engineer II is an intermidate technical role responsible for independently supporting pre‑sales activities by delivering technical presentations, solution demonstrations, and consultative guidance to customers. This role applies solid technical knowledge and customer‑facing skills to help sales teams articulate value, validate technical fit, and progress opportunities through the sales cycle.
Role Overview The Sales Engineer II transitions from assisted support to independent execution of standard pre‑sales technical activities. The role requires stronger technical judgment, the ability to tailor solutions to customer needs, and effective collaboration with Sales, Product, and Engineering teams. This position typically reports to a Senior Sales Engineer, Sales Engineering Manager, or Commercial Leader.
Independent Pre‑Sales Technical Execution Independently support sales opportunities with technical expertise Participate in customer discovery to understand technical requirements and use cases Translate customer needs into appropriate solution recommendations Product Demonstrations & Technical Presentations Plan and deliver effective product demonstrations (virtual or in‑person) Tailor demonstrations to specific customer scenarios and industries Present technical concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences Solution Design & Configuration Develop and recommend solution architectures within defined scope Perform standard solution sizing, configuration, and compatibility assessments Identify technical risks or gaps and propose mitigation strategies Proof‑of‑Concept & Technical Validation Support or lead routine proof‑of‑concepts, pilots, or evaluations Coordinate technical validation activities with internal teams Document outcomes and technical findings to support sales decisions Customer Engagement & Relationship Support Serve as a trusted technical partner during customer engagements Respond to technical questions, RFIs, or solution clarification requests Support follow‑through on technical commitments made during sales cycles Collaboration with Sales & Cross‑Functional Teams Partner closely with Account Executives and Sales Managers Coordinate with Product Management, Engineering, and Support to address requirements Provide feedback from the field to inform product and solution improvements Technical Documentation & Sales Support Contribute to technical proposals, solution descriptions, and sales collateral Document standard configurations, demo setups, and best practices Maintain accurate records of technical engagement activities in CRM or sales tools Tools, Systems & Process Discipline Use CRM, demo platforms, and configuration tools consistently Follow sales engineering engagement processes and standards Support reporting on technical sales activity as required Knowledge Development & Continuous Improvement Deepen expertise in products, technologies, and competitive solutions Stay current on industry trends and customer challenges Share best practices and lessons learned with the sales engineering team Informal Mentorship Provide informal guidance to Sales Engineer I roles Support onboarding and knowledge sharing within the team.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related technical field required Typically 2–4 years of experience in sales engineering, solutions consulting, technical support, or customer‑facing technical roles Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong working knowledge of products, solutions, and underlying technologies Ability to independently manage standard pre‑sales technical engagements Strong presentation and technical communication skills Ability to translate technical concepts into business value Solid problem‑solving and troubleshooting capability Comfortable interacting with customers and influencing technical decisions Professional judgment, responsiveness, and accountability Additional Job Details Technical – T2 Organizational Impact Works to achieve operational, functional, and/or business targets within team with direct and indirect impact on departmental or job family results, using practical technical principles Intermediate-level technical contributor; generally works independently under moderate supervision and may seek advice of more senior employees in the same area Failure to achieve results requires allocation of additional resources to meet goals and impacts project completion with the potential for additional financial expense. Works on smaller, less complex projects/assignments Communication & Influence Communicates with employees typically within the department and/or job family, explaining and interpreting matters related to the department; may communicate with external clients or partners depending upon the job area May influence employees within own job area at an operational level Innovation & Complexity Responsible for making minor improvements to technical/business processes, procedures, or systems to contribute to the performance of the team Problems faced may be difficult but are not complex, requiring application of technical skills/analysis drawing from prior experiences, and typically involve consideration of multiple issues and impact job family and/or multiple teams Leadership & Talent Management May provide guidance, help with training and review work of entry-level employees May lead parts of less complex projects or processes Knowledge & Experience Requires understanding of basic context and practical knowledge of technical and business environment as well as potential and upcoming technical advances within area of specialization, typically obtained through advanced education and relevant experience Requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience Salary range - $70K - $80K.
