Job summary

Nucor Building Systems Texas in Terrell, TX seeks a Civil/Structural engineer (P.E.) to join our team and lead design coordination for pre-engineered metal buildings, collaborating with sales, estimating, and design to deliver accurate, cost-effective solutions. Expect travel to project sites as needed to ensure quality and constructability.

The role emphasizes competitive design, constructability, and total installed cost considerations, with safety and quality across departments.

Qualifications

  • 4-year Civil/Structural engineering degree and PE required.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in the pre-engineered metal building industry.
  • Ability to travel frequently, including short-notice travel.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, coordinate, and oversee design processes and best practices for estimates.
  • Engage with District Sales Managers, Builders, Estimating, and Design teams to identify opportunities and support projects through estimating.
  • Provide technical guidance and design solutions to support sales and profitability objectives.
  • Collaborate across departments to develop safe, efficient, and economical project solutions considering pricing, erection, constructability, and total installed cost.
  • Evaluate nonstandard project requirements and propose balanced, cost-effective solutions.
  • Partner with Estimating Supervisor and Sales Leadership on selling strategies for complex projects.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Builders through travel and regular communication as a trusted technical resource.
  • Support recruiting efforts for the division by identifying and developing potential recruits.
  • Travel is a significant and active component of this role and may be required on short notice.

Basic Job Functions:

  • Proactively engage with District Sales Managers, Builders, Estimating, and Design teams to identify project opportunities, initiate involvement early, and take ownership of supporting projects through the estimating process.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US (Nucor Buildings Group Texas will not sponsor the need for a visa now or in the future).

Minimum Qualifications:
  • 4-year Civil/Structural engineering degree and Registered Professional Engineer
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in the Pre-Engineered Metal Building industry
  • Ability to travel frequently, including occasional short-notice travel.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with pre-engineered metal buildings or structural steel.
  • Experience representing a manufacturer, fabricator, subcontractor, or specialty trade partner in Design Coordination.
  • Experience with design-assist, design-build, integrated project delivery, or other collaborative project-delivery methods.
  • Experience with construction document interpretation.
  • Ability to identify and execute competitive sales strategies.
  • Knowledge of construction materials and methods.
