Job summary

Bluefield Engineered Systems, located in Grand Rapids, MI, seeks an Outside Sales professional to maintain existing relationships and develop new opportunities through superior service and support. Educate engineers, contractors, and owners on precision instrumentation and control solutions.

The role requires travel within the territory, technical consultative sales, and collaboration with inside sales to build competitive proposals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; Mechanical or Industrial Engineering preferred.
  • Associate's degree in Pre-Engineering or HVAC Technology valued.
  • Proven ability to follow established sales guidelines and territory strategies.
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Travel within designated territory to build relationships with engineers, contractors, and facility managers.
  • Serve as the technical liaison between manufacturing partners and local industry stakeholders.
  • Present technical product information through Lunch-and-Learns and training sessions.
  • Collaborate with leadership to schedule territory coverage and growth plans.
  • Attend training and events to maintain product knowledge and market visibility.
  • Provide on-site support during installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting.

Salary Range: $75-85k annually DOE plus commission (Compensation is comprised of base salary and Bluefield commission structure).

Job Description

The Outside Sales position maintains existing customer relationships and develops new opportunities through best-in-class service and support. The position requires continually meeting with and educating engineers, contractors, and owners/end users on solutions offered by Bluefield.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Territory & Business Development
  • Strategic Territory Management: Travel consistently within the assigned territory to build deep relationships with consulting mechanical engineers, controls contractors, and facility managers, proactively driving specifications and brand preference for Bluefield represented product lines.
  • Technical Consultative Sales: Serve as the primary technical liaison between our manufacturing partners and local industry stakeholders (engineers, contractors, and building owners).
  • Educational Outreach: Conduct high-impact technical product presentations, "Lunch-and-Learns," and formal training sessions to educate the market on product features and applications.
  • Territory Strategy: Collaborate with the internal leadership team to establish and execute a recurring schedule and strategic timeline for effective territory coverage, account management, and market growth.
  • Market Presence: Attend manufacturer factory training, industry events, and trade shows to maintain an elite level of product knowledge and industry visibility.
Engineering & Technical Execution
  • Plan & Spec Review: Analyze construction documents, blueprints, and engineering specifications to identify opportunities for product inclusion, value engineering, or strategic substitutions.
  • Technical Applications Support: Respond to RFQs/RFPs by evaluating complex or non-standard applications and providing accurate, engineering-backed technical recommendations.
  • Field Support & Commissioning: Provide on-site technical assistance as needed to contractors during the installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting phases of precision instrumentation and control devices.
  • Project Consultation: Participate actively in project design meetings, job-site walks, and coordination discussions alongside engineers and contractors.
  • Inside Sales Collaboration: Work hand-in-hand with the inside sales team, providing accurate take-offs, equipment selections, and technical data needed to build competitive proposals.
  • Technical Documentation: Prepare accurate submittal packages, equipment selections, and supporting technical documentation required for formal project bidding.
  • Pipeline Management: Track and document all project activities, client touchpoints, and sales opportunities within the company CRM to ensure accurate forecasting and team alignment.
Experience and Requirements
Education & Experience
  • Academic Background: A Bachelor's degree is required. Mechanical or Industrial Engineering is preferred. An Associate's degree in Pre-Engineering or HVAC Technology, or an equivalent track of hands-on HVAC industry experience, will also be highly valued and considered.
  • Process Alignment: Proven ability to adopt, follow, and execute established sales guidelines, territory strategies, and corporate procedures.

  • Critical Thinking: Strong analytical capability to use logic and reasoning to evaluate complex mechanical systems, identifying the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions or engineering approaches.
