Job Overview
The Sales Associate acts as a point‑of‑contact for customers, assisting them in locating and purchasing merchandise, operating the cash register, stocking shelves, and maintaining a clean store environment. The role supports the store manager in maximizing profitability and customer satisfaction while protecting company assets.
Qualifications
- Effective interpersonal and oral communication skills.
- Understanding of safety policies and practices.
- Ability to read and follow planograms and merchandise presentation guides.
- Knowledge of basic cash handling procedures.
- Basic mathematical skills.
- Ability to perform cash register functions and stock merchandise.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Duties & Essential Job Functions
- Provide excellent customer service, greet and assist customers.
- Operate cash register and scanner to itemize and total purchases, collect payment, make change, bag merchandise, and assist customers as needed.
- Follow merchandising processes: unpack, stock, restock, rotate merchandise, and build displays.
- Clean the store: take out trash, dust and mop floors, clean restrooms, receiving area, and set up sidewalk displays.
Working Conditions
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, and kneeling to manage checkout station, stock merchandise, and unload trucks; may require pushing/pulling rolltainers.
- Frequent handling of merchandise and equipment such as handheld scanners, pricing guns, box cutters, merchandise containers, two‑wheel dollies, U‑boats, and rolltainers.
- Lifting up to 40 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 55 pounds.
- Occasional climbing with a step ladder up to 6 feet.
- Fast‑paced environment with moderate noise level.
- Occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
