Job summary

Goodwill of Greater Washington is seeking a Retail Sales Associate to be the face of our store, delivering friendly service and accurate transactions. You will help customers, maintain tidy merchandise displays, and handle cash responsibly.

This role emphasizes daily customer interactions, teamwork, and a professional appearance, with duties including ringing up sales, restocking, and keeping the store safe and welcoming for our community.

Qualifications

• Ability to effectively communicate with customers and GGW associates.
• Basic math skills are required.
• Stand for up to 7 hours per shift and lift up to 40 pounds frequently.
• Provide exceptional customer service and resolve complaints.
• Basic working knowledge of computer applications and the internet.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional and courteous service to all customers inside the store, outside of the store, and on the phone.
• Ensure merchandise is placed on the sales floor in a timely manner.
• Ring up sales accurately at the register and handle cash, cards, and checks.
• Maintain knowledge of merchandise and answer customer questions promptly.
• Keep floor merchandise neat and orderly and assist customers with selections.
• Maintain a clean, professional appearance and store area.
• Assist with general housekeeping and store upkeep duties as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• 1. Provides professional and courteous service to all customers inside the store, outside of the store, and on the phone.
• 2. Assures merchandise is placed on the sales floor in a timely manner
• 3. Able to ensure items are rung accurately on the register
• 4. Demonstrates accurate cash handling skill to include but is not limited to making change, operate and maintain the cash register, check and charge card machine, and use of a calculator
• 5. Maintains knowledge of merchandise and answers customer’s questions courteously and promptly
• 6. Keeps floor merchandise neat and orderly (racks, shelves, bins, and hangers) and assists customers with purchase selections.
• 7. Maintains clean professional appearance

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• 1. Maintain an orderly and clean register area
• 3. Maintain familiarity with store security procedures and exercise security practices when necessary
• 4. Perform general housekeeping responsibilities to include: store upkeep duties as needed to include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, wiping shelves, and dusting (including restrooms and dressing rooms)
• 5. Perform other duties as assigned by management

Preferred Qualifications

• 1. A minimum of six months of previous work experience
• 2. High School Diploma or equivalent
• 3. Previous experience working in a retail environment
• 4. Excellent customer service related skills
• 5. Working knowledge of a cash register
• 6. Multilingual with complete fluency in English
