Job Title: Application Engineer

Reports To: Operations and Engineering Manager

Company Overview

This is a leader in metal machining and fabricating in the medical device industry.. With a team of 60 and plans to scale to 80 by year’s end, this company supports small- to mid-sized prototyping and production runs, offering end-to-end expertise rarely seen in the industry. Backed by a history of toolmaking and a strong foothold in metals machining, we’re seeking an Application Engineer to play a pivotal role in our customer engagement and quoting process.

This role has opened due to a departure, and with it comes the opportunity to step into a mission-critical position with strong visibility. You’ll be the connective tissue between sales, engineering, and production—bringing technical prowess and customer engagement skills to the forefront.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead estimating efforts (approx. 75% of your time), including:
• Interpreting technical drawings (PDF-based)
• Generating costing and pricing models
• Collaborating with the sales team to shape winning proposals
• Support contract reviews, ensuring feasibility and alignment
• Offer on-the-floor support, especially during the introduction of new products
• Host customer visits and attend occasional trade shows
• Assist customers with technical drawings and tolerancing—helping them quote more effectively

Core Requirements

• 5–10 years of experience in a machining or metals-based engineering environment
• Deep understanding of metal machining—including materials like stainless steel, titanium, tool steel, and shape memory alloys
• Comfortable using Job Boss (ERP), and ideally familiar with AutoCAD or SolidWorks
• Ability to understand and communicate complex technical requirements with clarity
• Local to the Twin Cities area

Nice to Have

• Background in machining and/or CNC programming
• Experience working in independent, lean engineering teams
• Prior exposure to small-run prototyping and job-shop operations
