Job description

Relationship Sales Trader

Technology-Focused State & Commercial Marketplace | Component Purchasing | End User Researcher

Full-Time | On-Site | Billerica

The Role

Every trader needs a market with inefficiencies to exploit. Ours is one of the most overlooked in the technology sector: the secondary market for K-12 device parts and components.

School districts across the country run millions of Chromebooks, laptops, and tablets. When a device breaks — and they break constantly — districts need a specific part, fast, at a price their budget can absorb. Most of those parts are no longer in production. They don't appear in distributor catalogs. They live in liquidation lots, eBay storefronts, overseas warehouses, and surplus auctions. The market for them is fragmented, opaque, and inefficient.

That's where you come in. As a Relationship Sales Trader, your job is to source liquidity from that fragmented market — identifying, evaluating, and acquiring excess, obsolete, discontinued, and secondary-market technology components — and deploy that inventory where it's needed most: into the hands of school district technology teams who are depending on it to keep students learning.

The Edge

You find value where others don't look. You move fast when others hesitate. And you know that the best trade is the one where both sides win — the district gets what they need, and the company generates margin.

What You'll Do

Source the Inventory - Find the Liquidity

  • Scan federal and commercial marketplace platforms daily — eBay, Amazon, AliExpress, GovPlanet, Defense Logistics Agency surplus, GSA Auctions, and other secondary-market venues — to identify undervalued component inventory
  • Monitor deal flow across liquidation channels, surplus dealers, estate auctions, and broker networks for technology components that match demand signals
  • Set up alerts, review saved searches, and seller watchlists so you're first in when inventory surfaces
  • Research the secondary market for discontinued, end-of-life, and hard-to-find parts that no traditional distributor carries — and build a view of where supply exists before demand spikes
  • Track pricing across platforms to develop a reliable sense of market value for key components — so you always know when a price is a deal, and when it isn't

Execute the Trade - Buy Right

  • Make confident buy/no-buy decisions quickly, often with incomplete information and time pressure — treat every purchase as a position you're putting on
  • Negotiate directly with individual sellers, liquidators, and surplus dealers on pricing, quantity, condition, and terms — use best-offer tools, counteroffers, and bulk-lot structures to improve entry price
  • Evaluate listings for authenticity, actual condition, and counterfeit risk — the difference between a good trade and a bad one often lives in what the listing doesn't say
  • Manage sizing: know when to buy a single unit for a specific district order and when to take a larger lot to build strategic inventory
  • Process purchases across multiple platforms and payment methods accurately; manage orders, in-transit inventory, and receipt reconciliation

Manage the Book - Protect the P&L

  • Inspect and grade incoming inventory against what was represented at purchase; elevate disputes and manage returns when sellers misdeliver
  • Coordinate with the repair and fulfillment teams to understand what components are in demand, what quality thresholds are acceptable, and what defect tolerances the repair process can absorb
  • Flag slow-moving positions and work with the team to move or redeploy inventory before it ages out of value

Build the Network - Expand Deal Flow

  • Develop ongoing relationships with high-quality sellers, liquidation companies, and surplus brokers — the best deals come to traders with trusted relationships, not just search results
  • Identify and qualify new supply channels continuously; the secondary market is always shifting, and the trader who maps it best wins
  • Stay ahead of end-of-life cycles for major K-12 device lines (HP, Dell, Lenovo, Acer Chromebooks) so you can anticipate demand before school districts know they have a problem

Research - Know Your Market

  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of K-12 device ecosystems: which models districts are running, which parts fail most often, and which components are hardest to source
  • Track manufacturer EOL announcements, product transitions, and district device refresh cycles to anticipate future sourcing opportunities
  • Contribute market intelligence to the broader team — pricing trends, supply availability, new platform opportunities, and emerging seller networks
What You Bring

Required

  • 1+ years of sales experience
  • A trader's instinct: you spot opportunities for clients when there is opportunity, and you act on it
  • Ability to negotiate with individual buyers and suppliers, comfortable making offers, countering, and walking away
  • Ability to evaluate used, refurbished, and secondary-market goods quickly and accurately; you have the ability to read a listing for what it doesn't say
  • Disciplined record-keeping: track what you bought, what it cost, what arrived, and what it's worth to clients
  • Self-directed and resourceful — deal flow doesn't come to those who wait

Preferred

  • Knowledge of K-12 device ecosystems — Chromebooks, HP/Dell/Lenovo laptops, tablets, and ancillary products
  • Basic understanding of hardware part numbers, component compatibility, and device specs
Who Thrives Here

You don't need a finance background. But you think like a trader: you're always looking for mispriced inventory, manage risk, track your results, and you know the difference between a product worth holding and one that isn't. If you've ever flipped technology on eBay and thought "I could turn this into a business," you might already be who we're looking for.
