Description
The Sous Chef assists in managing back-of-house operations in a fast-paced, full-service restaurant to ensure high food quality and profitability.
Responsibilities
- Assist in planning, preparing, and producing food according to standards
- Prepare food items within specified time limits following recipes
- Manage kitchen team including training, scheduling, and performance
- Assist with food purchasing, storage, and inventory management
- Control costs through portion control and waste minimization
- Inspect kitchen areas for quality, cleanliness, and safety standards
- Foster a positive team environment and promote high standards
- Maintain safety and sanitation standards
- Support other team members as needed
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations
Qualifications
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Leadership experience in a kitchen setting
- Knowledge of restaurant operations, food safety, and hygiene
- Proficiency with kitchen equipment and management software
- Ability to work evenings, holidays, and weekends
Minimum Requirements
- Must be 21 or older
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- 1-2 years kitchen experience; 3-5 years preferred
- Ability to pass background check
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degrees preferred
- ServSafe or equivalent Food Safety certification
Physical Demands
This role requires standing for long periods, lifting up to 75 pounds, and working in a noisy, hot environment with exposure to hazards.
