Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

Ensures the integrity of all data collected at the time of registration to ensure accurate patient identification, help ensure patient safety, collect and/or facilitate accurate and timely payment for services provided, and deliver superior customer service to internal and external customers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Greets, receives, and escorts patients as required and consistent with customer service guidelines.
  2. Collects and verifies patient demographic, insurance eligibility, and financial information/responsibility, and accurately documents in hospital computer systems.
  3. Responsible for consistent and accurate use and execution of department SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), supporting tools, software, and websites.
  4. Identifies current and prior patient responsible balances, educates patients on their financial responsibilities, and collects payments.
  5. Screens self-pay patients, identifies potential solutions, and facilitates solution application processes (manual and/or electronic) or patient payments as appropriate.
  6. Interviews patients bedside as needed to facilitate timely and effective solutions (ED only).
  7. Assists patients in establishing secured installment plans when applicable.
  8. Ensures all hospital and regulatory requirements are met, including signatures, distributing patient rights, health care proxies, HIPAA requirements, etc.
  9. Completes registration paperwork to facilitate efficient patient flow.
  10. Meets performance standards established by Patient Access leadership, including quality collections, customer service, screening/solution rates, and productivity.
  11. Delivers exemplary customer service for patients in accordance with hospital expectations and guidelines.
  12. Works effectively with patient access peers and other hospital departments.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
  • Aptitude for and familiarity with patient access tools, systems, and technologies.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Comfortable with the collection process.
  • Comfortable with securing solutions for uninsured patients.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Proven ability and/or willingness to work as part of a team.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSURE, AND TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a hospital, clinic, physician office, or related field preferred.
  • General comfort with computer systems and software applications.
