Job summary

Baker Hughes is seeking a Safety Valve Technician in Wisconsin to assemble, repair, test, and validate Pressure Relief Valves, Safety Valves, and Control Valves. You will work with operations, quality, engineering, and service teams to meet customer requirements and API standards.

The role emphasizes mechanical aptitude, precision, and strict adherence to safety and quality. You will gain exposure to lapping, seating, and high‑pressure testing in a workshop environment and advance with the Baker

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree preferred; equivalent technical education and experience considered.
  • Minimum 5 years in valve assembly, repair, testing, or related mechanical service environments.
  • Experience with Pressure Relief Valves, Safety Relief Valves, and Control Valves.
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments and calibration tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and assembly documentation.
  • Experience operating pressure testing and valve diagnostic equipment.
  • Hands-on experience with Stainless Steel Tubing Bending.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble complex valve components per drawings, BOMs and instructions.

Safety Valve Technician Are you passionate about precision assembly, testing, and repair of critical valve equipment? Partner with the Best As a Valve Technician / Assembly Technician, you will be responsible for assembling, repairing, testing, and validating Pressure Relief Valves (PRVs), Safety Valves, and Control Valves. You will work closely with operations, quality, engineering, and service teams to ensure all products meet customer requirements, industry standards, and company quality expectations. Through your technical expertise and attention to detail, you will contribute to delivering reliable valve solutions that support critical customer operations while maintaining the highest levels of safety and quality.

In this role, you will apply your mechanical aptitude and valve servicing expertise to troubleshoot, assemble, calibrate, and test complex valve assemblies. You will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with API standards, supporting quality initiatives, and maintaining operational efficiency within the workshop and service environment. Your work will directly contribute to equipment reliability, customer satisfaction, and business success.

Responsibilities, Authorities and Accountabilities

As a Valve Technician / Assembly Technician, you will be responsible for:

  • Assembling complex valve components and assemblies in accordance with assembly drawings, bills of materials, and work instructions.
  • Performing functional, pressure, and performance testing on Pressure Relief Valves, Safety Valves, and Control Valves.
  • Operating and maintaining testing equipment in compliance with engineering and quality standards.
  • Applying appropriate settings, calibrating tools, and maintaining assembly equipment.
  • Performing precision torquing of valve components to required specifications.
  • Reading and interpreting assembly blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Troubleshooting mechanical issues and identifying corrective actions during assembly and testing processes.
  • Completing lapping and seat restoration activities using manual and automated lapping equipment.
  • Utilizing lapping compounds, lapping plates, sticks, and pneumatic/electric lapping units to achieve required sealing surfaces.
  • Distributing and supporting Quality Notifications (QNs) and corrective actions as required.
  • Safely operating cranes, hoists, pallet jacks, and other shop equipment.
  • Maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment while following all EHS procedures.
  • Hands‑on experience in Stainless Steel Tubing Bending, including interpretation of bend specifications, operation of manual/CNC tube bending equipment, maintaining dimensional tolerances, and ensuring tubing integrity for high‑pressure applications.
The successful candidate should have experience with:
  • Verifying actuator stroke, bench set, and positioner calibration according to manufacturer specifications.
  • API 598 Control Valve Testing Knowledge Conducting Shell Tests at 1.5 times the maximum rated cold working pressure (CWP).
  • Performing Seat (Closure) Tests in accordance with API 598 requirements and applicable leakage class standards.
  • Conducting pneumatic leak testing using air or inert gas to identify micro‑leaks in valve seats and trim.
  • Interpreting test results and documenting inspection records accurately.
Required Qualifications

Associate Degree preferred; equivalent technical education and experience will be considered. Minimum 5 years of experience in valve assembly, repair, testing, or related mechanical service environments. Hands‑on experience with: Pressure Relief Valves (PRVs) Safety Relief Valves Control Valves Experience using precision measuring instruments and calibration tools. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and assembly documentation. Experience operating pressure testing and valve diagnostic equipment. Hands‑on experience on Stainless Steel Tubing Bending.

  • API 598 testing procedures.
  • Precision measurement and dimensional inspection.
