Job summary

Midwest Construction Group seeks a Safety & Training Partner in Zeeland, MI, with travel to active sites. You will partner with site leaders to coach safe work practices, lead toolbox talks, and develop practical training materials for field teams.

You will conduct on-site coaching, support pre-task planning, and oversee safety program administration while ensuring OSHA compliance and continuous improvement across projects.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in commercial construction, with field exposure preferred.
• 2–3+ years in a safety-related role or strong hands-on safety leadership.
• Strong understanding of OSHA standards and construction safety practices.
• OSHA 30 required; OSHA 500, CHST, or CSP preferred.
• Excellent communication and teaching skills.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites.

Responsibilities

• Field Partnership & Coaching: build relationships with Site Superintendents, project teams, and subcontractors; coach teams on hazard recognition and safe planning.
• Jobsite Safety Leadership: conduct regular visits, identify hazards, discuss solutions, and reinforce expectations.

Job Title: Safety & Training Partner
Reports To: General Superintendent
Location: Zeeland, MI (travel to active job sites required)

Position Summary

The Safety & Training Partner plays a key role in building and supporting a proactive safety culture across all Midwest Construction Group jobsites. This position is centered on partnership, education, and field engagement, not enforcement.

The ideal candidate is someone who understands what it’s like to be on a jobsite and works alongside superintendents, trades, and project teams to identify hazards, coach safe behaviors, and prevent incidents before they happen. This role serves as a trusted resource and instructor—helping teams think through safety, plan work effectively, and maintain high standards while keeping projects moving.

Key Responsibilities

Field Partnership & Coaching

• Build strong, trusted relationships with Site Superintendents, project teams, and subcontractors.
• Maintain a consistent presence on jobsites while working alongside teams to support safe work practices.
• Coach field staff on hazard recognition, situational awareness, and decision-making in real time.
• Help teams identify risks early and guide them in planning safer, more efficient approaches.

Jobsite Safety Leadership

• Conduct regular jobsite visits focused on observation, coaching, and improvement, not just compliance.
• Walk jobsites with superintendents to identify hazards, discuss solutions, and reinforce expectations.
• Support pre-task planning, job hazard analysis, and daily safety conversations.
• Reinforce expectations for clean, organized, and professional jobsites.

Training & Instruction

• Lead safety training sessions, toolbox talks, and hands-on instruction for field teams.
• Teach teams how to properly walk a jobsite, recognize hazards, and prevent incidents.
• Support onboarding and safety orientation for new employees and subcontractors.
• Continuously improve training materials based on real jobsite conditions and feedback.

Safety Program, Compliance & Administration

• Support and maintain the company’s safety program in a way that is practical, organized, and usable in the field.
• Support compliance with OSHA and applicable safety regulations while keeping processes efficient and field-friendly.
• Assist with incident and near-miss investigations with a focus on root cause, learning, and prevention.
• Track safety observations, trends, and key metrics to support continuous improvement.
• Maintain and organize all company safety records, documentation, and reporting requirements.
• Ensure required jobsite safety postings, signage, and documentation are current, accurate, and visible across all projects.
• Track and maintain employee safety certifications (e.g., OSHA, lifts, CPR/First Aid) and coordinate renewals as needed.
• Maintain safety training records and ensure proper documentation of all company-led and site-specific training.
• Lead and coordinate quarterly Safety Committee meetings, including agenda development, documentation, and follow-up on action items.
• Maintain and manage safety equipment inventory, including PPE, fall protection, and jobsite safety tools ensuring quality, availability, and proper use.
• Assist with preparation and documentation for audits, inspections, and internal safety reviews.

Culture & Continuous Improvement

• Promote a culture where safety is shared ownership, not just a requirement.
• Encourage open communication and reinforce positive behaviors.
• Serve as a go-to resource for teams when questions or situations arise.
• Partner with leadership to continuously improve safety practices across all projects.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in commercial construction (field experience strongly preferred).
• Background as a superintendent, tradesperson, or field leader is highly valued.
• 2–3+ years in a safety-related role or strong hands-on safety leadership experience.
• Strong understanding of OSHA standards and construction safety practices.
• OSHA 30 required; OSHA 500, CHST, or CSP preferred.
• Excellent communication and teaching skills.
• Ability to build trust and influence without relying on authority.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites.
