Job summary

First Majestic Silver Corp-Jerritt Canyon Gold seeks a Safety Trainer to design, deliver, and assess mining safety training for employees and contractors. You will ensure compliance with MSHA rules, promote a strong safety culture, and work with operations, EHS, and maintenance to reduce incidents.

Responsibilities include onboarding, refresher courses, hazard recognition, emergency drills, and maintaining training records.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 3–7 years of mining, industrial safety, or heavy equipment operational experience.
  • Experience in surface mining, underground mining, quarrying, or mineral processing operations.
  • Prior safety instruction or workforce training experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of MSHA regulations and mining best practices.
  • Experience conducting safety audits, inspections, or incident investigations.
  • Familiarity with adult learning methods and instructional techniques.
  • Knowledge of mining operations and equipment.
  • Understanding of hazard identification and risk management.
  • Familiarity with ventilation, blasting, electrical safety, and heavy equipment procedures.
  • Ability to use learning management systems and training software.
  • Recordkeeping and compliance documentation skills.

  • Conduct new-hire orientation and mandatory safety training programs.
  • Deliver refresher training required by MSHA.
  • Teach safe work procedures for mining equipment, explosives handling, confined spaces, fall protection, lockout/tagout, ventilation, and hazard communication.
  • Lead classroom instruction, field demonstrations, and hands-on practical exercises.
  • Develop lesson plans, presentations, training manuals, and instructional materials.
  • Coordinate annual refresher and specialized safety courses.
  • Ensure all training complies with MSHA regulations and company policies.
  • Maintain accurate training records, certifications, attendance logs, and compliance documentation.
  • Prepare materials and records for inspections and audits.
  • Stay current on changes in mining safety laws, regulations, and industry standards; participate in incident investigations and root-cause analyses.
  • Assist with job hazard analyses (JHAs) and risk assessments.
  • Recommend corrective actions and preventive safety measures.
  • Support emergency preparedness drills and mine rescue training.
  • Monitor workplace safety trends and identify areas needing additional instruction.
  • Mentor employees on safe work practices.
  • Evaluate trainee performance and comprehension.
  • Provide coaching and corrective guidance when unsafe behaviors are observed.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and safety accountability.
  • Schedule training sessions and coordinate with department supervisors.
  • Track certifications and renewal dates.
  • Prepare reports on training effectiveness and compliance metrics.
  • Manage training equipment, simulators, and audiovisual systems.

About Jerritt Canyon

The Jerritt Canyon deposit was discovered in 1972, and the first gold production from the property occurred in 1981. The Jerritt Canyon property contains 30,821 hectares of mining claims located in the mining-friendly state of Nevada. First Majestic acquired the Jerritt Canyon Gold Mine from Sprott Mining Inc. on April 30, 2021. In May 2023, operations were suspended to prioritize exploration and technical studies. Jerritt Canyon is now entering a new phase of evaluation and planning, requiring substantial technical support to advance the work necessary for a potential future restart of operations.

The Opportunity

The Safety Trainer develops, delivers, and evaluates safety training programs for mining employees, contractors, and supervisors. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and company safety regulations while promoting a strong safety culture across surface or underground mining operations. Trainers teach hazard recognition, emergency response, safe equipment operation, and regulatory standards such as MSHA requirements. Safety Trainer's work closely with operations management, environmental health and safety teams, maintenance departments, and frontline crews to reduce accidents and improve workplace safety performance.
