Job summary

Walashek Industrial & Marine Inc. is seeking a Safety Technician to support the safety program and OSHA compliance across our Charleston branch and other sites as needed. You will report to the Charleston General Manager and Corporate Safety Manager.

This role covers daily safety oversight, incident reporting, and coordination with project supervisors to ensure corrective actions and compliance. The ideal candidate has OSHA maritime credentials, 4–6 years in shipyard safety, and proficiency with

Qualifications

• OSHA 10 Hour Maritime required.
• OSHA 3115 Fall Protection preferred but required post-employment.
• OSHA 3095 Electrical Safety preferred but required post-employment.
• OSHA 5410 Health & Safety Standards preferred but required post-employment.
• OSHA 521 Industrial Hygiene preferred but required post-employment.
• OSHA 30 Hour Maritime preferred but required post-employment.
• 4–6 years experience in Shipyard Safety.
• NAVSEA Safety Standard Items knowledge.
• TWIC card required.
• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Understanding of basic safety principles.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• High performance and a strong team player.
• Ability to work under deadlines and schedule pressures.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily safety oversight and observations at job sites and facilities.
• Report daily safety observations to Branch Manager/Corporate Safety Manager.
• Coordinate with project supervisors and report safety issues needing corrective action.
• Take immediate corrective actions and stop work for imminent threats.
• Provide safety support for projects as needed.
• Attend Monthly Safety Committee meetings.
• Attend Monthly QA/Safety meetings.
• Maintain current US driver’s license.
• Obtain access to ships, bases, facilities as required.
• Travel as required (air/ground).

Job description

The Safety Technician is responsible for supporting the safety program and the overall compliance of safety and compliance of OSHA requirements for their branch and as assigned. This position reports directly to the Charleston General Manager and Corporate Safety Manger as needed.

Essential Functions

1. Perform daily project safety oversight and observations at job sites and company facilities.
2. Report daily safety observation to the assigned Branch Manager and/or Corporate Safety Manager as instructed.
3. Coordinate with project supervisors and report safety issues requiring corrective actions and/or enforcement of requirements.
4. Supervisory Responsibility

Work Environment

This job operates on various job sites and in an office setting. The Safety Technician must be proficient in using standard office equipment such as computers, laptops, desk phones, cell phones photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing some duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibrations, noisy, and hot and cold temperatures. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. The Safety Technicianwill be required to wear safety compliant hearing, eye, head protection and other PPE when required. Visits may require standing on a variety of surfaces and at differing angles, bending over, crouching, and climbing up and over obstructions such as scaffolding, ladders, and internal barge and boat structures.

The Safety Technicianis frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Theemployeemust frequently lift and move up to twenty-five pounds and occasionally lift and move up to fifty pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or as required. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Must be willing to work holidays as needed.

Required Education and Experience

1. OSHA 10 Hour Maritime (Required)
