Job summary

Jefferson Lab is seeking an engineer to develop and maintain subsystems for personnel safety systems (PSS), machine protection (MPS) and oxygen deficiency hazards (ODH) used at the Jefferson Lab Facility. You will design, implement, test, and support high-reliability equipment to meet safety and performance requirements.

  • Able to oversee installation and testing of high reliability equipment used for accelerators and personnel safety.

The good-faith pay range for this role is $73,200 - $105,050 per year. Actual compensation may vary and may be above the posted range based on factors such as a candidate's skills, experience, education, certifications, and work location.

What your job will be like:

Responsible for the development, design, implementation of all subsystems associated with the Personnel Safety System (PSS), Machine Protection System (MPS) and Oxygen Deficiency Hazards System (ODH) used at the Jefferson Lab Facility.

In this job you will:
  • Design, support and maintain systems used for personnel protection from hazards associated with prompt ionizing radiation, oxygen deficiency, and systems used to protect electron accelerator components.
  • Translate performance requests and operational specifications into high reliability system requirements and then design, install, commission, test and maintain the system equipment to those specifications.
  • Maintain configuration control and documentation of assigned systems in accordance with JLab and DOE policies.
Experience
  • Preferred: A demonstrated background in system engineering principles and the ability to apply critical thinking, operational principles, and knowledge of electronic and electrical theory to accomplish engineering design tasks And
  • Preferred: Experience developing, designing, programming, installing, and testing high reliability systems And
  • Preferred: Experience with application and programming of PLCs (ladder logic or function block), and interface systems such as touchscreens or SCADA systems
Education
  • Required: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of electrical and electronic theory.
  • Efficient with ACAD for electrical systems documentation.
  • Able to work independently under general guidance and proactively seek solutions to meet project requirements.
  • Able to develop requirements, specifications, documentation and procedures.
  • Able to collaborate in multidisciplinary groups (engineers, technicians, electricians, designers, programmers and other staff).
  • Able to oversee installation and testing of high reliability equipment used for accelerators and personnel safety.
  • Able to effectively train his/her work group and effectively lead work teams within the work group.
  • Able to give effective presentations to general audiences and write convincing proposals and reports with all necessary backup material for lab consumption.
