Job summary

Lithium Americas Corp. seeks a Safety Supervisor to lead the on-site health and safety program at Thacker Pass in Winnemucca, NV. You will oversee Safety Specialists, drive safety culture, and ensure regulatory compliance with OSHA/MSHA across all site operations.

You will manage permit systems, training, incident investigations, and safe work practices, reporting to the Safety Manager. Occasional travel to other offices may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, science, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive safety experience in chemical, mining, mineral processing, or oil & gas industries; at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Working knowledge of US/Nevada OSHA and MSHA regulations; PSM facility experience preferred.
  • Proven ability to supervise safety personnel and work with frontline teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; capable of delivering safety training.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and safety management software.
  • EMT or First Responders certification is a plus.
  • CMSP or CSP certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary on-site safety point of contact for day-to-day operations.
  • Supervise Safety Specialists and provide guidance and feedback.
  • Partner with Safety Manager to implement site safety programs.
  • Represent Safety Manager when needed on site.
  • Collaborate with operations to identify and mitigate hazards.
  • Lead daily/weekly safety meetings and toolbox talks.
  • Ensure MSHA/OSHA compliance and coordinate regulatory activity.
  • Manage Safe Work Permit systems (Confined Space, Lockout/Tagout, Hot Work).
  • Conduct safety walk-throughs, inspections, and audits with timely corrective actions.
  • Maintain safety records and training documentation.
  • Coordinate with operations on OSHA PSM requirements.
  • Develop and deliver required safety training for employees and contractors.
  • Onboard new employees, contractors and visitors with safety orientation.
  • Conduct hazard assessments for new chemicals/processes.
  • Support industrial hygiene programs and exposure monitoring.
  • Oversee PPE programs and lockout/tagout equipment.
  • Lead incident investigations and corrective actions.
  • Track safety performance metrics and support safety culture initiatives.

In this role, you will serve as the on-site safety leader for day-to-day Health and Safety (H&S) operations at Thacker Pass, working directly with frontline teams to ensure compliance, promote a strong safety culture, and drive continuous improvement.The Safety Supervisor will lead the implementation of safety programs, manage permit systems, oversee contractor safety compliance, and directly supervise Safety Specialists on site. The plant will consist of a sulfuric acid plant and processes for clay beneficiation, acid leaching, neutralization, crystallization, chemical precipitation, solid/liquid separations, and ion exchange. The successful candidate will have demonstrated supervisory experience, strong communication skills, and a proven ability to drive safety performance in OSHA and MSHA regulated environments.The role is based at the Thacker Pass site and reports to the Safety Manager. Occasional travel to other LAC offices, project sites, or vendor locations may be required.**Key Responsibilities*** Serve as the primary on-site safety point of contact for Thacker Pass day-to-day operations, providing direct oversight and visible safety leadership across all work areas.* Supervise Safety Specialists, providing guidance, task delegation, performance feedback, and professional development support.* Partner with the Safety Manager to implement site-level safety programs, ensuring alignment with LAC-wide standards and regulatory requirements.* Represent the Safety Manager on site in their absence, serving as the acting safety authority for operational decisions.* Collaborate with operations supervisors, contractors, and department leads to proactively identify and mitigate hazards before work begins.* Chair or facilitate daily and weekly safety meetings, toolbox talks, and pre-task planning sessions with frontline teams.* Ensure day-to-day site compliance with MSHA and OSHA requirements; coordinate with the Safety Manager on regulatory strategy and agency interactions.* Manage the site Safe Work Permit system, including Confined Space Entry, Lockout/Tagout, Hot Work, and Excavation permits, ensuring proper issuance, execution, and closure.* Conduct regular safety walk-throughs, inspections, and audits of facilities, equipment, and emergency systems; document findings and drive timely corrective actions to closure.* Support the Safety Manager in maintaining required safety compliance documentation, records, and regulatory submissions.* Coordinate with operations teams to ensure compliance with the OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) program requirements applicable to site activities.* Develop, schedule, and deliver MSHA/OSHA required training for employees, contractors, and visitors; maintain complete and accurate training records and verification.* Coordinate and oversee onboarding safety orientation for new employees, contractors, and site visitors.* Conduct hazard assessments for new chemicals, processes, and tasks introduced to the site.* Support the site industrial hygiene program, including coordination of occupational exposure monitoring activities.* Oversee PPE and lockout/tagout equipment programs, ensuring availability, proper maintenance, and correct usage across all crews.* Lead the timely investigation of incidents and near-misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective and preventive actions with documented closure.* Maintain and report on safety performance metrics and leading indicators; escalate trends and concerns to the Safety Manager.* Actively participate in the site Safety Committee and support broader safety culture initiatives.* Drive continuous improvement projects to enhance safety performance and reduce risk exposure at Thacker Pass.* Participate in internal audit programs and support the development and tracking of corrective action plans.* Support the development and maintenance of the Site Emergency Response Plan under the direction of the Safety Manager.* Participate in and help the Emergency Response Coordinator with any Emergency Response training, drills, and readiness activities on site.* Serve as an on-site emergency coordinator during incidents, escalating to the Safety Manager and site leadership as appropriate.* Build and maintain trusted relationships across all teams while championing a culture that reflects and supports our Purpose, Vision, and Values* Perform other duties as assigned**Required Qualifications*** Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, science, or a technical discipline related to health and safety, or equivalent relevant work experience.* Minimum 5 years of progressive safety experience in the chemical, mining, mineral processing, or oil and gas industry, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead safety role.* Working knowledge of U.S. and Nevada OSHA and/or MSHA regulations; experience in an OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) facility is strongly preferred.* Demonstrated ability to supervise and develop safety personnel and work effectively with frontline operations teams.* Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to deliver effective safety training and engage diverse audiences.* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.* Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification or State First Responders' certification is a plus.* Certified Mine Safety Professional (CMSP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or working toward certification is a plus.* Personal commitment to Lithium Americas’ Purpose, Vision, and Values
