Position Purpose
Assists in the collection and analytics of data as directed by the Director of Safety. Works closely with field operations teams to coach, manage, and audit store safety.
Key Accountabilities
- Oversee all safety efforts within assigned area.
- Monitor unscheduled Safety Survey and Policy Review (SSPR) of all division stores with particular emphasis on Focus stores. Review results with Division Staff and provide assistance to correct deficient conditions. Recommend to District Manager corrective actions requiring management approval.
- Maintain channels of communication, encouraging store and division personnel to express new ideas, suggestions, and complaints, reviewing each for appropriateness and further action.
- Monitor and assist stores to comply with local, state, and federal (OSHA) safety and health standards, including, but not limited to: General Industry Safety Orders, Uniform Fire Code, Life Safety Code, Employee Right-to-Know, Community Right-to-Know, Hazardous Waste Disposal, Lockout/Tagout, Powered Industrial Truck (PIT), Emergency Evacuation, Ergonomics, and OSHA Recordkeeping.
- Review Safety Tracking tools to measure safety performance, identify exceptions, and work with District Managers to resolve issues related to Safety Training, Safety Committees, Accident Investigations, Floor Maintenance, and on-site Safety Surveys.
- Monitor training of new associates regarding safety policies and procedures. Determine training needs and conduct group seminars as needed.
- Oversee store accident reporting and investigation procedures; partner with Associate Relations for disciplinary actions if needed.
- Monitor store safety committee activities and provide training to ensure effectiveness.
- Participate in store director and department meetings, training, claim reviews, and safety committee meetings. Public speaking skills are required.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the division.
Knowledge And Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
- 3-5 years grocery retail and safety experience; loss control or claims experience preferred.
- Previous training and auditing experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of OSHA standards preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Travel Requirements
Division-wide travel up to 50%.
Physical Environment
- Work may be performed in a temperature-controlled environment.
- Must sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.
- May spend long periods at a desk or computer.
- May require stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching.
- Work may include evening and weekend hours.
- Weekly travel to stores; must have transportation and be available for overnight travel.
- Ability to move freely around stores, including second-story areas.
- Requires analytical ability, mental alertness, concentration, and dealing with interruptions.
