Job Description
This Safety Specialist will support our Solar team. Responsibilities include providing field support and assisting Safety Managers, Construction Managers, supervisors, team members, and subcontractors in implementing Site-Specific and Client Safety and Health policies and procedures. The role emphasizes regulatory compliance and continuous improvement of project safety performance, aligned with the Company’s Core Values. The expected work week is approximately 50 hours.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in developing strategies to reduce injuries, illnesses, and incidents, ensuring achievement of business targets.
- Provide safety training and education, including site-specific training, toolbox talks, and safety moments.
- Support pre-job safety planning and construction coordination meetings to identify hazards and develop emergency response plans.
- Lead safety meetings and training programs to communicate Site-Specific Safety Plans and procedures.
- Perform safety audits, evaluations, inspections, and behavioral observations; facilitate corrective actions.
- Assist in investigating injury, illness, and liability incidents.
- Develop and distribute safety and health correspondence.
- Update team members on regulatory and company requirement changes.
- Identify team members, JV partners, and subcontractors needing safety support or training.
- Coordinate safety programs with subcontractors and vendors to ensure policy adherence.
- Serve as a contact for safety or risk management authorities, including OSHA, in the Safety Manager's absence.
- Promote a positive safety culture and collaborative relationships among stakeholders.
- Communicate ongoing safety challenges and needs to Regional Safety Manager.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Safety and Health or equivalent experience and training.
- Preferably 8+ years of safety experience in construction, especially in relevant project types, though all levels considered with role adjustments.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other safety regulations and policies.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize independently.
- Ability to work under pressure in a high-production environment, including nights and weekends.
- Judgment and initiative in managing safety programs and policies.
- Ability to influence and positively interact with frontline personnel and supervisors.
- Physical ability to climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and at heights with fall protection.
- Proficiency with computers and mobile applications.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Preferred: CPR/First Aid/AED certification, OSHA 30/10-Hour Trainer, CHST or CSP certifications.
