Job description

Reporting to the Senior Safety Specialist and supporting the implementation of Florida Canyon safety and health programs by completing field inspections, maintaining records, assisting with training and incident reviews, and helping employees and contractors understand safe work requirements. This is the entry-level role in the Safety Specialist career path and works under regular guidance.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Promote Florida Canyon’s safety culture and participate in site safety initiatives, meetings, and field activities.
  • Conduct routine workplace observations, inspections, and audits using established checklists; document findings and communicate hazards promptly.
  • Assist with corrective-action entry, tracking, follow-up, and verification of supporting documentation in the designated safety management system.
  • Support incident and near-miss reporting, evidence collection, interviews, documentation, and follow-up under the direction of senior safety personnel.
  • Help prepare and deliver safety meetings, toolbox topics, orientations, and refresher training within approved qualifications.
  • Maintain accurate electronic and paper records for inspections, training, incidents, regulatory activities, and safety performance data.
  • Provide employees and contractors with basic guidance on site procedures and refer complex compliance questions to senior staff.
  • Assist with emergency preparedness activities, drills, inventories, and readiness checks as assigned.
  • Learn applicable requirements of 30 CFR, company standards, critical-risk controls, and Nevada requirements relevant to assigned work.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee, medical, and incident information.
  • Respond to the mine site or medical facility during emergencies when assigned and qualified.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, emergency management, mining, or a related field preferred
    • One year of mining, industrial, construction, emergency response, or safety-related experience preferred; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain site driving privileges required.
  • MSHA Part 46/48 training required
  • Basic understanding of workplace hazard recognition and risk controls preferred
  • Ability and willingness to learn MSHA regulations, company standards, incident reporting, and mine operating processes preferred
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, required
  • Valid driver’s license required
