Job summary

P&E Constructors, LLC is seeking a Safety Specialist to oversee all aspects of project safety on nationwide assignments. Travel up to 90% is required, with per diem and mobilization support provided as needed.

Qualifications

Job description

P&E Constructors is an employee-owned (ESOP) mechanical and electrical construction firm executing large capital projects with deep roots in the industrial construction sector. Since 1946, we’ve delivered fabrication and installation services with a commitment to safety, quality, reliability, and client-focused solutions.

This role supports projects across the United States and requires a high level of travel based on business and project needs. Candidates may be based anywhere within the U.S.; however, the selected individual should be prepared for assignments at various project locations nationwide. Travel for this position may reach up to approximately90%.

Project assignments generally last 10 to 17 months, depending on project duration and operational requirements. While assigned to a project away from home, eligible employees are provided per diem to assist with temporary living and travel-related expenses, in addition to a competitive base salary.

To support project deployment, mobilization assistance may be provided, which can include mileage reimbursement or other approved travel support. Employees may also receive extended weekend rotations approximately once per month, allowing additional time for travel home.

Position Overview

The Safety Specialist is responsible for overseeing and promoting all aspects of project safety to ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and site-specific safety plans. This role supports the development and implementation of safety programs, emergency protocols, incident investigations, reporting audits, and safety initiatives while providing leadership, technical guidance, and mentorship to project teams. The Safety Specialist contributes to a proactive safety culture focused on accountability, and achieving safe, high-quality project outcomes with zero recordable incidents or lost-time accidents.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure site emergency protocols and medical services are followed for the project
  • Coordinate procurement and distribution of required safety equipment
  • Support project-specific safety campaigns, recognition programs, and initiatives
  • Participate in internal and external project kickoff meetings
  • Ensure all project activities are performed safely and in compliance with environmental standards
  • Prepare and submit weekly and monthly safety reports
  • Conduct site observations and audit results to identify safety trends and improvement opportunities
  • Manage and mentor staff in alignment with P&E safety standards and expectations
  • Serve as the primary liaison to site management regarding safety technical guidance and compliance matters
  • Compile final project safety metrics, including hours worked, incidents, and near misses, for closeout reporting
  • Coordinate inventory and return of project safety equipment
  • Provide leadership with feedback and recommendations regarding overall project safety performance
  • Ensure compliance with all company processes, procedures, and policies; Promote and uphold the highest standards of safety performance and accountability
  • Foster a positive safety culture through leadership, communication, and example
  • Support P&E’s commitment to being a preferred partner by delivering safe, high-quality project outcomes that meet evolving customer needs
  • Complete required safety observations and reporting activities
  • Ensure all employees understand and follow company safety processes and procedures
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Construction Management, or related field preferred
  • 3-10 years construction safety experience; Advanced knowledge of heavy industrial construction industry
  • BCSP certification is a plus
  • Advanced knowledge of OSHA regulations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate

Compensation & Employee Ownership
  • The market rate for the role is typically at the mid-point of the salary range; however, variations in final salary are determined by additional factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
