Job summary

McGuire & Hester is seeking a Safety Specialist to enforce the safety program across all sites. You will provide technical insight, investigations, and risk management to ensure compliance with safety policies and regulations.

The role reports to the Safety Manager and collaborates with risk management and HR leaders. Responsibilities include conducting jobsite safety inspections, hazard analyses, and safety meetings, plus assisting with training and accident investigations to maintain a safe

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; OSHA 30-hour and 40-hour HAZWOPER training preferred.
  • Reading, writing and speaking English professionally; bilingual Spanish is a plus.
  • Ability to perform construction mathematics and understand plans and specs.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and model the company safety program across sites and subsidiaries.
  • Attend daily jobsite huddles and participate in weekly safety meetings.
  • Conduct jobsite safety inspections and address hazards with field management.
  • Perform equipment and property inspections and report deviations.
  • Administer safety programs and assist in hazard identification and site plans.
  • Assist with hazard analyses for daily huddles and tailgates.
  • Lead jobsite safety meetings and discuss safety issues with management.
  • Audit compliance with policies and procedures at sites.
  • Support Marketing with safety-related photos and recognitions.
  • Conduct accident investigations and participate in post-incident testing.

Job Summary

The Safety Specialist supports the Safety Manager and enforces the company safety program on behalf of each subsidiary of McGuire & Hester. Provides technical insight, analysis, investigations, and risk management for all jobsites by ensuring compliance with policies and procedures and state and federal safety regulations.

Typical Duties
  • Promote McGuire & Hester safety program. Serves as a role model and champion for safety and safety compliance.
  • Strives to attend daily Jobsite Huddles for all subsidiary companies in all geographical locations.
  • Attends weekly safety department meeting.
  • Perform jobsite safety inspections for all companies; completes accompanying paperwork and addresses existing and potential hazards with field management.
  • Performs equipment and property inspections and reports any deviations back to Resource, if needed.
  • Administers Safety Buck and Scratcher program at the field level and documents same.
  • Use expertise to assist field management in pre-construction identification of safety issues and concerns and development of site-specific safety plans.
  • Assist field management in creating and presenting hazard analysis for the daily huddle.
  • Conduct jobsite safety meetings; discuss job specific safety issues with field management.
  • Audit jobsite and employee compliance with company, state and federal policies and procedures.
  • Assists Marketing Department by being a jobsite conduit for pictures, positive recognitions, and marketing suggestions.
  • Assisted in field management in effective presentation of weekly tailgate and bi- yearly Safety Meetings.
  • Conduct accident and injury investigations.
  • Assist as directed, with employee training.
  • Administer post-incident drug testing as needed.
  • Maintain and enhance personal training levels.
  • Assist Safety Manager and Risk Manager, as needed.

  • Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED. Required certifications include OSHA 30-hour course; 40-hour HAZWOPER training. Current OSHA 500 certification and additional professional safety credentials are highly preferred.
  • Language Skills: must be able to read and write in English at a professional level; bi- lingual in Spanish preferred
  • Mathematical Skills: able to perform construction mathematics calculations
  • Plan and Specifications: Must have the ability to understand Plans and Specifications for each type of project the company constructs.
  • Planning and Organizing: the individual prioritizes and plans work activities for themselves and others Reasoning Ability: this position requires strong problem-solving skills, and reading comprehension; must deal with both standardized and non-standard situations with many variables
  • Interpersonal Skills: the ability to interface with a wide variety of people including clients, employees, managers, agencies and the public; public speaking is required for this position
  • Computer Skills: must have strong computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and train others to use company technology
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registration: valid CA Driver's License and a clean driving record
