Overview

The Safety Specialist plays a critical role in fostering a culture of safety and regulatory compliance across all operational areas. This position is responsible for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of comprehensive safety programs and policies in alignment with local, state, and federal regulations.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Support the development, implementation, and enforcement of comprehensive safety policies, procedures, and programs to ensure ongoing compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and industry-specific standards.
  • Lead regular safety audits, facility inspections, and risk assessments to proactively identify and mitigate hazards across all operational areas.
  • Serve as the lead investigator for workplace incidents, near-misses, and safety violations; conduct thorough root cause analyses and collaborate with stakeholders to implement corrective and preventive measures.
  • Deliver engaging, targeted safety training across multiple topics including hazard recognition, PPE use, emergency preparedness, and regulatory compliance to new hires and existing employees.
  • Partner with leadership to support the rollout of new safety initiatives, programs, and procedural updates, ensuring organization-wide alignment and employee buy‑in.
  • Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date safety records, including training documentation, inspection logs, OSHA 300 logs, and incident reports in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct job‑site safety audits with a focus on hazard identification, behavioral safety, and operational best practices; document findings and ensure timely follow‑up on corrective actions.
  • Facilitate regular safety meetings and toolbox talks, promoting open communication, continuous learning, and accountability at all levels of the organization.
  • Monitor and reinforce compliance with PPE usage and other site‑specific safety protocols through spot checks, plant walkthroughs, and employee coaching.
  • Stay informed of evolving safety regulations, industry developments, and emerging best practices; make proactive recommendations to enhance workplace health and safety.
  • Represent the company during inspections by regulatory agencies and assist in preparing for and responding to compliance inquiries and audits.
  • Collaborate with operations and department leaders to assess work‑site safety needs and implement practical, effective solutions that align with operational goals and worker well‑being.
  • Support the continuous improvement of the safety culture by identifying trends, analyzing metrics, and contributing to the development of strategic safety objectives.
  • Maintain OSHA files and documentation to ensure inspection readiness and regulatory accuracy.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Bilingual in Spanish strongly preferred; able to communicate effectively across diverse teams and training settings.
  • Required 5+ years of progressive safety experience in industrial, agricultural, or warehouse environments, with demonstrated knowledge of regulatory compliance and risk mitigation practices.
  • In‑depth understanding of safety principles, protocols, and best practices applicable to warehouse and industrial environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform effectively in high‑pressure, fast‑paced operational settings while maintaining composure and sound judgment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; capable of delivering clear safety messaging to all levels of the organization.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA regulations, Cal/OSHA standards, and other applicable health and safety requirements.
  • Collaborative and team‑oriented with a service‑driven mindset and the ability to influence and support safe work behaviors.
  • Adaptable and flexible in duties, schedules, and assignments based on evolving business or operational needs.
  • Willingness and availability to work extended hours, including overtime and weekends, as required by business demands.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification preferred; ability to respond effectively to workplace emergencies and support onsite incident response efforts.
Physical Demands & Abilities
  • Must be able to work in dynamic environmental conditions, including cold, wet, and humid areas such as packing facilities, processing floors, and outdoor field environments.
  • Routinely required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, lift, reach, and squat throughout the workday, often while navigating uneven or slippery surfaces.
  • Ability to safely lift, carry, and move equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, using proper ergonomic techniques.
  • Willingness and physical stamina to work extended hours, including weekends and holidays, particularly during peak harvest and production periods.
  • Ability to see clearly and focus on detailed tasks such as using a computer, entering data, while performing repetitive hand movements accurately and consistently.
