WHAT YOU WILL DO


Thompson Machinery is seeking a Safety Specialist to support and advance our Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programs across multiple branch locations. This position plays a key role in fostering a safety-first culture, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving continuous improvement in safety performance throughout our operations. The ideal candidate is a hands-on professional with proven experience in safety program execution, employee training, and incident management.


RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Implement and monitor Thompson Machinery's safety strategies, policies, and programs

  • Maintain accurate documentation and statistical records related to Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) compliance

  • Deliver training on HSE procedures to employees and contractors

  • Facilitate Safety Training Programs and promote active participation in safety initiatives

  • Conduct inspections to evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and work practices

  • Ensure compliance with corporate safety standards, customer requirements, and government regulations

  • Manage the reporting and documentation of accidents and incidents

  • Conduct thorough investigations and root cause analyses for incidents and near-misses

  • Perform regular safety audits across assigned locations

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives in safety procedures and programs

  • Serve as a subject matter expert and resource for employees and department managers

  • Promote and maintain a safety-first workplace culture

  • Obtain and maintain certification to conduct Forklift Operator, Manlift/Scissor Lift, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) training

  • Ensure strict compliance with all PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) standards and safety regulations

  • Be available for occasional work beyond regular business hours when needed

BASIC REQUIREMENTS



  • Associate Degree in Occupational Safety and Health or similar degree preferred

  • 2-4 years of experience in a Health & Safety role

  • 1-2 years of experience training/instructing employees in safety-related subjects

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record

  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly (approx. 50%)

  • Physically able to perform safety inspections in active work environments and comply with PPE standards

  • 2-4 years of experience in construction, heavy equipment, or industrial operations

  • 1-2 years of experience in marine, oil & gas, or plant-based work environments

  • Familiarity with OSHA standards and other relevant federal, state, and local regulations

  • Must become qualified to deliver safety equipment and procedure training (e.g., Forklift, LOTO)
