Job summary

Ultium Cells LLC seeks a Safety Specialist to advance health and safety across a new high-technology battery cell manufacturing plant. You will help anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control hazards while engaging staff in a strong safety culture.

Your role covers launch readiness, safety management system development, and training delivery. The position requires OSHA-related credentials, teamwork, and willingness to travel up to 15% in a fast-paced, unionized manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

  • OSHA 30/ASP/CSP certification or willingness to obtain.
  • 0-3 years of experience in General Industry and a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work selected weekends, holidays, and night shift (8pm-4am).
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA and state/local regulations and requirements.
  • Team setting capability and collaboration.
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate technical data, test results, and reports.
  • Positive attitude, self-driven with good interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organization.
  • Willingness to travel 10-15%.

Responsibilities

  • Support commissioning of facilities and production equipment.
  • Support onsite launch activities.
  • Assist in developing Task Based Risk Assessments.
  • Drive adoption and implementation of safety standards.
  • Deliver annual safety goals and objectives to workforce.
  • Support Workplace Safety System adoption and safety standards.
  • Audit and report compliance with safety standards and procedures.
  • Participate in Emergency Response Planning.
  • Collaborate with operations, construction and plant floor teams.

Ultium Cells is a joint venture Lithium-Ion Automotive Battery Cell Manufacturing plant between LG Energy Solutions and General Motors. This new construction high-technology plant will have the latest Battery Cell manufacturing technology. The investment in this new business venture represents a commitment of more than $2.3 Billion. It will be among the largest Battery Cell Manufacturing plants in the world. Ultium Cells will produce Battery Cells for General Motors North American electric vehicle applications.

The Ultium Cell partners include LG Energy Solutions; the world's largest manufacturer of Automotive Battery Cells in the world and General Motors a global company committed to delivering safer, better and more sustainable ways for people to get around.

Position Description

The Safety Specialist will focus on improving Health and Safety at the Ultium Cells facility by using their experience to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control hazards in the workplace and engage employees in the development of a strong health and safety culture. Functions as an expert resource to teams for consistent implementation of company health and safety standards and programs including but not limited to:

Manufacturing Launch and Readiness:

  • Support the commissioning of facilities and production equipment
  • Support and participate in onsite launch activities
  • Support the development of Task Based Risk Assessments

Safety Management System:

  • Support adoption and implementation of the Workplace Safety System
  • Drive the development of Ultium Cells specific safety and health standards
  • Deliver annual Ultium Cells facility health and safety goals and objectives to the workforce

Learning and Development:

  • Support Manufacturing Learning and Development in the identification and facilitation of the Training Management System and the affective launch of site-specific health and safety training.
  • Support delivering New Hire and Contractor Orientations
  • Ensure effective auditing, observations, and reporting of compliance with safety standards and procedures .

Emergency Response:

  • Participate in the plant’s Emergency Response Planning Process

Other:

  • Communicate and work effectively with operations, construction, plant floor teams

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • OSHA 30/ASP/CSP or willingness to receive certifications
  • 0-3 years of experience in General Industry and a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work selected weekends, holidays, and night shift (8pm-4am)
  • Strong knowledge of and experience working with OSHA and state/local regulations and requirements
  • Must be comfortable working in a team setting
  • Skill in analyzing and evaluating technical data, test results, and reports
  • Positive attitude, self-driven, strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated effectiveness in accomplishing goals
  • Strong attention to detail and organization
  • Must be willing and able to travel 10-15% of the time

Your Skills & Abilities (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Knowledge in Lasers, Ionizing Radiation, and Non-Ionizing Radiation
  • Proficiency in Process Safety Management (PSM)
  • Familiarity with Combustible Dust practices
  • Previous experience in working with on-site contractors
  • Bilingual proficiency in Korean and English
  • Sufficient knowledge of Ergonomics
  • Previous experience in a startup environment is advantageous
  • Previous experience in a Union setting
  • 3+ years of experience in General Industry and a manufacturing environment
  • Associates degree or some higher education

Your Physical Abilities

  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Capable of walking on variable surfaces for extended durations
  • Proficient in climbing stairs and/or ladders
  • Aptitude for lifting and moving equipment weighing up to 50 pounds

Shifts rotate once a month to the following:

4:00AM-12:00PM

8:00AM-4PM

12:00PM-8:00PM

Weekends typically end up to be once a month depending on staffing.
