Job description

The Safety Specialist assists in the development, implementation, and oversight of project-specific safety programs to ensure a safe work environment for all employees and subcontractors. By collaborating closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and corporate safety leadership, the Safety Specialist monitors compliance, investigates incidents, and provides guidance on risk mitigation to protect people, property, and project outcomes—supporting ANDRES’ continued success Houston and across Texas.

Key Responsibilities:
Safety Program Development & Implementation
  • Assist Project Superintendents and Project Managers in developing safe work plans to address known hazards
  • Lead the project team in supervising, coordinating, and implementing site-specific safety programs and risk assessments
  • Prepare and update site-specific safety policies, including emergency action procedures, work assignments, pre-task planning, personnel administration, and training for emergency contingency plans
  • Facilitate project-specific safety training for all onsite staff and subcontractors
  • Conduct site-specific orientation programs for new personnel and subcontractors
Compliance & Regulatory Oversight
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of all local, state, and federal OSHA requirements, as well as ANDRES Construction safety requirements
  • Conduct and document regular safety inspections on project sites
  • Accompany OSHA compliance officers and insurance inspectors during site audits
  • Evaluate subcontractor qualifications, training programs, and competency to ensure compliance with safety standards
  • Understand and apply principles of the Contractor Controlled Insurance Program (CCIP)
  • Document and investigate all incidents involving property damage, personal injury, safety violations, near misses, unsafe conditions, and non-compliance activities
  • Set up new and maintain existing incident reports electronically (GL, WC, & Auto)
  • Perform all aspects of claims management, including follow-up on doctor visits and auditing progress reports
  • Track incident claim report status and create summary reports
  • Provide guidance on trends, corrective actions, and loss rates based on project safety performance
Site Safety Operations
  • Ensure proper project start-up, including posting of all labor and safety posters, signage, and safety materials
  • Maintain a safe and orderly work environment by identifying hazards and recommending preventive measures
  • Frequently walk the jobsite to monitor safety compliance and practices
  • Physically navigate active construction sites, including uneven surfaces, floor openings, heights, and other typical hazards
  • Collaborate with ANDRES Corporate Safety Director and Regional Safety Managers to develop and implement company-wide safety policies and procedures
  • Attend Environmental Safety & Health departmental meetings to stay aligned with company initiatives
  • Share best practices and lessons learned with project teams through the ANDRES Forum
